COOLING UPDATE

I originally spent $1159 for mine. But then I replace the 2x256mb with about $70 worth of 2x512mb.

Wonder Dude,
How is the V4000t going. I went to Comp Usa and Circut City. They didn't have this laptop on display . I did try out the HP DV4000 and V2000. I know the V2000 is smaller but is it pretty much the same laptop as the V4000t? Are all the Compaq set up the same? Do you think this laptop is durable? The HP DV4000 looks really durable and I would need to take this laptop to school with me. My mom also thought that the V4000t would start to look dirty after use. Is that true?
I wich it was easier to decide between these two laptops. It's driving me crazy .

LOL! Decisions! Decisions!

The v2000 does not have the x700 option. So if you're a gamer, stay away from the v2000.

The other two are suppose to be the same basic laptop. Except that the HP can supposedly play DVDs and CDs without booting up the computer. And it comes with a remote. But, I like the looks of the Compaq better. And I really don't care about that other stuff. And I don't think it will end up looking dirty. I think it is very cool! And I like my matted screen.

Anyway, good luck!

WonderDude,
What do you think of the V4000t touch pad and the "click buttons"? Are they easy to use? Is the keyboard full sized? Are the keyboard keys sturdy? I will need to use this laptop throughout college and I need one that I won't feel cramped on.
I have heard so many good things about the compaq. I am just nevous since the only compaq I have ever seen in person is the V2000. I guess if they are the same size it wont really matter. Its pretty much the same company.

I think the v2000 is smaller. The keyboards should be the same, but the v4000t will have more palm space and a larger screen. I own a v4000t and love it. Its main purpose has been mobile gaming. I drag it all over to friends houses, play some online games via wifi. It feels very sturdy, I think the Compaq shell is actually more sturdy then the HP. The Silver could get dirty, if you play with filthy hands? The touchpad buttons are nice, the touchpad itself is too smooth and if your finger is sweaty, it almost feels sticky. I personally like the rougher touchpads. I use a wireless optical mouse most of the time anyway. If I didnt purchase this notebook, I prob wouldve ended up with a Dell Inspiron 6000 or 9300.

I agree with jkomp! The Compaq feels sturdier than the HP. I really like the touch pad! Although I am totally the wrong person to ask. My last laptop was an ancient Dell I5000. It was also a referb and it's touch pad had some serious problems. Anyway, one thing I really do like about the Compaq's touch pad is that it is all one piece! Another words, there is no way you are gonna get crap up under the rim of the pad. Take a closer look the that V2000 and you'll see what I mean.

So are you a gamer?

Hey all....sorry I haven’t been as active on the forums lately. I just got a V4000T feb 28th. I got it with 256mb of ram and haven’t upgraded yet to 2gb...which will be this coming weekend so i haven’t doen any reviews or post any pics. All I have to say is that the compaq's are way more sturdy than the hp's. 3 people at my work have newer hp's including the dv4000...and all the things it has the v4000 doesn’t does not make up for the build quality. From the feel of it closed to the touch pad, to the performance......i give it an A+. I did about 5 months of research on the net...going to store to store getting Asus, Acer, Alienware, Dell hands on experience. I would even go into best buy and ask them if i could walk around with it so i could really understand how they all felt. Nehoot....i love the v4000T and have no regrets at all.

There is no way to change the cover unless you paint it.
It feels like it's about 6.5 lbs.

But, I don't think you can get the V4000t with the x700 anymore.
