I have two hard drives that I continuously clone back and forth for backup purposes by using PartitionMagic 8. How I do this is:
1. Copy all partitions from DISK 1 (primary master) to DISK 2 (secondary master)
2. Remove DISK 1 (primary master) from computer [and disconnect it from the computer completely]
3. Change the cabling so that DISK 2 is now effectly DISK 1 (running as primary master) and there is no hard disk connected as the secondary master
Every two to three weeks, I repeat this process for backup purposes.
I have upgraded to ZoneAlarm Free 6.1.737.000 on Windows XP Professional. Whenever I perform this backup process, all of ZoneAlarm's settings are lost on the target drive (DISK 2), including configured zones, application permissions, antivirus monitoring selection --- everything.
When previously running Windows 98SE with ZoneAlarm 4.5.538, I did not have this problem.
I have tried performing this backup in both the Windows version of PartitionMagic and by using the DOS recovery disks. Neither way made any difference - ZoneAlarm lost its settings both times.
Is there something I can do differently? Or, at least, is there a way I can export ZoneAlarm's settings to later import them back? Does anyone know where, on the hard drive, registry, or both; ZoneAlarm actually stores its settings?
And no, the "Export Settings" and "Restore Settings" options are only in ZA Pro and ZA Suite.
