7800GTX Go inserted into a Dell Precision M70, by yours truly

Battery life is virtually identical, after modding.

----

If all goes well, I'll be starting another (much better) mod for this laptop THIS MONTH, and the article should be out a few weeks after that.

Hmmm now what could I be inserting?

impressive, did you have to modify the bios for the motherboard to get it to accept the new card? Or was the voltage decrease enough that this was not required?

yet another reason to buy a dell

Very cool. So whenever you have a chance, go ahead and figure out how to put the 7800 into a 700M. Thanks in advance...

The 700M uses a 65W power supply. Compare this to the standard 130W XPS2 power supply. Also, it's integrated graphics. It will never happen.

NO SYSTEM BIOS FLASHING WHATSOEVER NEEDED

Please don't forget that the only problem was 1.3v was it ran too hot and used too much power. This can be alleviated with other methods, which will probably be covered in other guides.

I think he was just kidding about the 700m...very cool though

you have to buy two of them to get it for that price, and consider the scam possibility/shipping costs. this is the first time this guy has sold something on ebay.

Now do the same to my ASUS Z71V. It's in the mail as we speak. I need it back in 3 weeks
post #12 of 62
yeah, if you could figure one out for the Asus Z71v, I am sure you will have at least 30 other people in line.
can this be done with the i6000??? Or atleast get a x1600 in to it?
OMG will this work in my 8600?
Wow, very, very nicely done! I've no idea why Dell won't sell a 15.4 gaming machine, it's clearly possible. If I was in the US with easy availbility to parts, I would probably have a go at this but getting spare parts in the UK is near impossible. Would it be possible to do this with a D810, or does the M70 have better cooling/higher PSU since its Quadro uses more power than the D810's X600?

edit: M70s are surprisingly cheap from the outlet, real shame I can't get a 7800go GTX locally although I'm very tempted to get one from the US now, I'd love to have the portability of my 8600 back

Regarding the 8600: Please take pictures of the notebook disassembled (pic of motherboard) as well as a pic of the graphics card module.

It uses X600 right? It may be able to be done, but I don't have one currently to test.
I assume he was joking, the 8600 uses an AGP 9600 on an 855 chipset.

Ah, I got it confused with the 6000.

Any Dell laptop with PCI-E graphics may work for the mod. If you want to check to see if your notebook works, then please post pictures as I mentioned above.

I'm curious to see which other notebooks would work as well.

EDIT: Judging from this pic, modding the 6000 may not be possible. http://support.dell.com/support/edoc....htm#wp1006368

I need another better shot of the gfx card module and the surrounding stuff to see if the larger card could possibly fit.

EDIT: Latitude D610 is another potential choice. I need pics of this as well.

ok pic of the card, cant be bothered taking the whole thing apart for the mobo. but we can start here at least

man if it was possible to put a 7800 in a i6000 that would rock. The 9300 is awesome but is way bulky for getting it to school all the time on the train.
