I am running w2k xp pro on my new 8600. I had this working on my wireless at home and at work. It also worked if I used the ethernet connection at a friends house. I had problems when playing BF1942 as I got a chipmunk type sound for all the talking. I tried to re-install the sound drivers and all hell_ broke loose. I immediately lost my connection to the interent and at the time it was my work wireless. I tried rebooting and that didn't help. Then I thought I may have to reinstall the wireless drivers also and connected the LAN line so I could get online. This didn't work either. Now I have no connections that work. I had to type this on a different machine on the network. I tried fixing this for almost 5 hrs now and I cannot figure this out and it is driving me nuts. I had all the drivers on my machine saved in a backup folder so I didn't have to have internet connection to reinstall but it was no use anyway. I reinstalled the drivers from scratch in the same order as the first time by doing wireless, then ethernet port, then sound and it didn't work. I tried all variations of this after that. Then I tried add remove programs on these many times too and then reinstalling. Then I tried going through system and deleting the devices and reinstalling. Then I tried searching for the dlls (since they aren't deleted when you remove the device) and getting them clear off my system and then reinstalling the drivers. Nothing works. Neither my ethernet or my wireless works. However, it does show connected but I don't think it is taking an IP address. All that happens when I reinstall is that it increments the number on the connection so instead of "local area connection" I am at about "local area connection 10". Something is very wrong here and I am at the point of reformatting if I can't get help. My fear is that the same thing will just happen all over again though so reformatting is not a good solution.

I'd really appreciate any help. I have wasted half the day on this. Thanks much.
