Okay, so this is a somewhat hypothetical question as at the moment I have neither the budget nor justification for this, but I've been greedily eyeing the Fujitsu P1120 (http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Eco...n.do?series=P1) as a possible ultraportable to pick up. Short of it for the unfamiliar, it's a relatively inexpensive (list is still 1200 but can be had on ebay for ~700) light (2.2lb) and pretty favorably reviewed/durable touchscreen-convertible-tablet-thingy. It uses a Transmeta processor, which while some people eschew I actually find encouraging as it means it runs really cool and really long (and I don't need tons of processor power: that's why this is an ultraportable, I'll whip out the Dell when I need to really crunch numbers).

Anyway, the thing is it only seems to be available with XP Home/Pro edition, not XP Tablet. I remember seeing somewhere that this might be because of the processor (that there isn't an XP Tablet edition for Transmeta processors yet or something), but whatever the reason, it seems to be true no matter where I find it. So, I'm wondering what I'd be missing out on. Or put in the positive, what is good about XP Tablet edition? Can third party software cover the functionality of the touchscreen, or does having the tablet OS really make a difference? And on a somewhat related note, if I chose to install an alternative OS (e.g. probably Linux), is there any chance I could get the touchscreen working and have the functionality (e.g. text recognition, quick note taking, etc.)?

Thanks for your time.
