9860 Memory Upgrade Question

Thread Starter
Hi Everyone!

I am planning to upgrade my notebook memory from 1GB to 2GB. I presently have 2 512MB. I think the cheaper option is to buy another 2 512MB. However, I am curious to know how stable the 9860 is with all memory banks full. Does anyone have all 4 slots filled with RAM? If so, are there any stability problems?

Thank you.
N.

I would also like to know this as I am planning on doing the same...

it would run faster with 2x1gb than 4x512mb.

I have 4 X 512mb ram sticks, all dual channel. Works great.

3 GB ---- DUAL CHANNEL?

I have 2x512mb chips
and 2x1024MB chips

I am not sure if they are dual channel or not but i guess i could do a memory speed test on just two chips installed and all four chips installed and see if there is a slowdown.

I bought the laptop with the two 512mb chips and wanted to max out the usable ram cost effectively.

I will post my speed results soon.

I have 3g as well... the stock 1g and 2 1g Kingston high speed low latency works great...

Mine is maxed out as well and is at 2 gig 2x512 in channel one and 2x512 in channel 2 and all is good with my rig.

3gig here stock 2 x 512 and since one week additional 2 x 1024 g.skill. all fine, nice improvement.

does window see all 3gb?

about 2.8gb - but i couldnt find 900mb memory chips - i tried i swear!!! .

the g.skill was under $70 per chip - so it doesnt really matter i guess.

g.skill is a memory brand. fairly low cost and good quality on diff levels from normal to highly o/c able. good warranty also i think its about 10yrs - much longer then i ever had a pc or lappy . think in the usa its only newegg and one other company distributing it. just google: g.skill memory, ram - you will find all about it.

I was wondering what timing the default ram has in the 9880?.. I don't want to buy ram with higher timing, just to not be able to use them...

I'd like to upgrade to 2 GB also. I have 2x512MB sticks, but I only want 1 1024 stick, can I do this or do I have to buy a pair since this would be 2x512 and 1 1024?
if you want dual channel memory capability you need to upgrade in pairs.

Ok thanks alot...... Dang, should I get two 512's or two 1024's? Decisions, decisions.

rofl - get 2 x 1024 so you dont have to think about upgrading ram again. it wont take more then 3gb. not really even that.
