Full system standby under linux, how?

How do I get FULL system standby in linux? When I close my lid my screen turns off, but I can hear the fans still going and harddrive doing its thing. Same thing with xset forcing standby.

I just got ACPI working with a custom DSDT, so what do I need to do to get it to standby?

This is an Acer Travelmate 8104 if it matters...

no clue specifically but you have to enable it first, if you ahve kde open klaptop, and you should find a hibernate option in there somewhere, if acpi works right, try to enable it and give it a spin.

furhtemrore, you might wanna recompile your kernel to include suspend2disk.

too lazy to check the specs, but if you have an ATI card and use FGLRX graphics, you'll need to give them up if you want standby, its not linux's fault, its all because ati sucks.

anyway, don't take my word for anything i just said, wait for more experienced users to come along and drop a line

Software suspend is still shakey. I've tried to get it to work with Ubuntu Hoary and Breezy and couldn't. It's already in the kernel, too.

Just so we're clear...

By "standby" I mean the windows definition, isn't software suspend for hibernation (something I dont use?)

Crap, yes, you're right. Hooray for brain farts.

Unfortunately, I've never tried standby on Linux. No clue.

you have to recompile the kernel using the suspend-to disk code, its complicated to work and i only got it too work once and that was when i was running mdk 9.1 T_T....

here is the link: Suspend-to-disk
