Upgrade from ME to XP or 2000

I have a Micron MiLLENNIA MAX XP2 (100C) with an AMD Athlon 1.3GHZ Processor (266FSB), 60 gig HD and 1024 RAM, running on ME and I would like to upgrade the operating system to Windows XP pro or Windows 2000. Is it possible to do this upgrade?

It is possible..but I recommend a full reformat before installing either XP or Win2k.

Ditto ,

It will save you a lot of "heart burn" if any probelms are evident after the upgrade. Tried the upgrade a couple of times and now always reformat and install as new. That way if you do have problems, you can be sure it was not because of something "left over" from the previous operating system.

XP pro upgrade or full

When I buy the XP Pro software do I need to buy the full version or can I just buy the upgrade?

You can buy the upgrade and do a full reformat/install with that, as long as you have the ME serial number that may be requested.

Acually I think that you need the ME CD. During the XP upgrade it asks you to put in the CD of your older Windows. At least that is what it did for me.

XP
ME sucks and crashes all the time

Only crash that I have had <Edit: With XP> was when I installed Roxio over Nero and was warned that it might cause problems........I ignored the warning....... and was immediately awarded a noncorrectable BSOD....... Painful..... That was over a year ago and have had no other problems since and use it all of the time. The machine is only powered down for unscheduled power outages that last longer than the UPS can provide power.

I bought my computer through Micron and they did not give me a cd for the OS, just a OS recovery disk. Is it still possible to upgrade to Windows XP pro?

install the recovery disc.. but only the OS then pop in the upgrade it should be fine
just reformat to NTFS instead of FAT32but you will see when you do that.

I have crashed XP a bunch of times took me only 3 hours to do it the first time i installed it it gotta love Maya.
