battery life of laptop under linux

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I'm running an Inspiron 700m on Gentoo with extended 8-cell battery. I'm getting about 3 hours and 30 minutes of battery life.

My cpu is running at 600mhz on battery and 1.8ghz with adapter (I forget which governors I'm using..). I turn down the brightness all the way. Usually, I have heavy wireless activity (connected to a server) or am compiling source code, so I guess that's what makes the battery die so fast?

I'm just wondering how your guys laptop's batteries run under Linux and what you do to improve battery life.

its normmal to get less battery in linux than in windows. i for one get about 2h win, 1h40 lin. anyway, CPU throttling and screen brightness seem to be key, and is exactly what i have configured.

check out this gentoo guide...quite amazing i think? sorry...tried to look for it but can't its in thee somewhere.
