More fodder for the Dell fanboys?

Still, it's good info and all true

Copied intro here:

When people think of enthusiast laptop companies, Alienware and Voodoo usually come to mind first.

Can you imagine their surprise when I tell them that Dell is actually the best enthusiast laptop company? It is definitely understandable. Dell targets the mainstream audience while Alienware and Voodoo present themselves as an enthusiast-oriented vendor. In reality, however, they don’t even come close to Dell.

The guys has some points, but he makes it sound like Dell does it to give the user a better experience. Yeah right, it's all done in the name of profit and economies of scale.

I'm still a firm believer that I will not upgrade the hardware in my lappy aside from memory - that is simply a buy it, use it, sell it appliance for my purposes, so I could care less about upgradeability.

I guess you can define enthusiast in many ways. I'd say Dell is a get compromise of price/quality/performance. I'd pick Sager as the top enthusiast brand. I think Voodoo and Alienware would be more "elitest" than enthusiasts, since you can get the same thing from Sager for less but without the flash.

Whoa...didn't know disaembly didn't void the warrenty...I'm guessing that doesn't include non Dell authorized modifications though. What Dell should do is let us overclock our Notebooks, with of course limitations (like not letting the FSB reach anything super high, or maybe already testing out which ones work best) as that could help them not have to buy expensive high clocked chips!

Interesting article, but not particularly earthshattering. Yes, I suppose Dell is the most laptop-enthusiast-friendly company, and I can see the logic, but somehow the statement falls kind of flat for me.

Of course, Dell does it for profit. However, it's a win-win situation

You don't upgrade your laptop bc you're not a "true enthusiast"

Well Dell is definitely the most bang for your buck when you figure in the online coupons that everyone uses.

There is no such animal for Alienware or Voodoo or Sager.
