Hello to all,
I have a dell inspiron 6000 (you can probally tell from my name!) and i am getting worried about spyware and viruses i use:

AVG Free
Spybot Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware
Microsoft Anti-Spyware
Zone Labs Zone Alarm (Free Edition)

Can anyone mention any better ones or just some more and are these any good?

I am not very good when it comes to computer safety i used to have a dell inspiron 4100 (very good laptop, gave it to my mom) as an excuse to buy a new one! anyway my old notebook after downloading 5 programs and doing some more i had 234 viruses i had McAfee (which is crap i have to say) i thourght it was good but i did not find all of them...

I then changed to Norton and it found a further 34 viruses!!!

I Just dont know what to do??

I'm using Ewido Anti-Malware, works great! A lot better than AdAware and Spybot.

The best way to prevent viruses and spyware is to stay away from where they hang out. By that I mean no P2P, filesharing, free pron, etc. Practice 'Safe Hex' and your computer will generally stay pretty healthy.

The only other plus side I can see to this monastic PC existence is that you'd have more time for gaming.

It is not as easy as that... i dont surf free porn....you get them from downloading stuff

Holy crap, that's a lot of bloatware to be running. To be honest, the most important thing is a firewall and after that something like Spybot S&D that doesn't run in the background sucking resources. If you're smart and format every once so often, anti-virus isn't even that important.

But I'm running on the safe side as well, just testing out Microsoft's OneCare Live Beta.

That's what I said. Don't download crap that you don't know comes from a reliable source. And stay away from 'Warez' and 'Kazaa' and 'Limewire', etc.

Here's what I use

Firefox (with some security extensions)
AVG Free (or avast!)
A hardware router

I download files for "evaluation" purposes all day and I'm all over the "adult" websites, and I have never gotten spyware and/or viruses. NO INTERNET EXPLORER.. at least until IE7 is out, but we'll see how that goes. I used IE6 for 3 days last week and had to reformat.. too much spyware.. ugh

It does not matter if you did'nt get spyware from your adult websites i think it is just wrong but i have an idea for you................. why dont you go out and get yourself a girlfreind (it is better than FREE PORN!!)

also i wonder were you get your malware from.....you sick free porn!!!!

LOL I think you misunderstand... I AGREE that reformating all the time is not a good idea. The remark about free porn was facetious, because we all know the internet is rife with it. It is hard to do anything on the internet without running into porn of some kind or another.

hey inspiron.....why don't you just use "AOL Security" tools eh

Get a cheap spare laptop for surfing the web and keep your 'real' laptop off-line... that way you don't need to run anti-malware software that tends to have the side-effect of slowing down your machine.

Heck, the difference between most malware and most anti-malware software is minimal even when they are not actually the same.

This thread is becoming off-topic with the p0rn argument. Keep it to the original subject.

And by the way, I use:

Avast! anti-virus
Sygate firewall
SpywareBlaster
Spybot & Ad-Aware
CCleaner
jv16 PowerTools registry cleaner

Let's keep to the topic people. The only thing that is worst than a person who didn't use the search prior to post, is a person who call that person dumbass w/o even bothering to help a newbie correctly.....

Get back on topic.
