MJ-12 m7700a 3DMark test (all of them)

Drivers used were the 82.10 off of laptop2go's website. Cpu both at 2.4ghz. 7800GTX at same clocks 445/1.18. Notice how much closer they get the newer the tests are i.e. 05 and 06. I still think the cpu scores for the laptop are under where they should be but maybe after a clean install of XP that will help. Anyway here are the results.

3DMark Scores

Laptop Desktop

01 - 26546 28880

03 - 16527 17270

05 - 7622 8000

06 - 4213 4358

As you can see a clear win by the desktop but I say that the laptop put up a great fight. I'll post the orb links to the laptop in a minute. Any other benchmarks you would like me to run a comparison on please post them here, and make them the free versions so I can download them if I don't have them.

01 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8872235

03 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4566548

05 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1729824 run at 461/1.20 almost 8000

06 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=42716 @ 461/1.22, 4331 a little better than my first test

Just ran Aquamark with the 7800's at 461/1.20.

Laptop Dektop
GFX 15669 16575
CPU 9320 10821
Total 85120 93872

Updated 3DMark06 score 4596. Cheack out this thread that Yang put up, and add some scores. I don't see updating this list of scores anymore with that thread having been started.

Congrats on your order, seen you might order one last night. I would think it should put up some very nice numbers.

Ha-ha, at least you know what your looking at though. I was only a couple days behind the estimated date. I can say I am happy at how the phases went (I know some are not so happy too). Good luck.

I just overclocked the GTX 7800 which bumped me up to 7523 on the 3dMark05 test. Cool little registry setting that unlocks the hidden overclocking feature. I ran it at 460MHz/1.21Ghz which is what came up after detecting optimal freqs. Had the internal wireless going, so I don't know how much, if any, that impacted the results.

Are there any long term drawbacks running with it permanently overclocked?
As long as you don't push it too hard, there won't be any drawbacks. You should however run some further tests with either a game or burn-in program after you overclock your card; as you won't see any artifacts if you're just in the normal Windows environment.

Nice overclock there, and nice score. I'm shooting for 8000 and will get there (at 7938 right now). I don't run mine overclocked except during benchmarks. In actual games it will only be 2-5 fps better while overclocked and these cards at stock are doing just fine with games. I had mine at the same settings all night last night and never noticed any heat increase so as long as you have no artifacts or corruption it might be ok, but like I said you really don't need to in most games yet.

What else are you doing to get your score up near 8K? Are you really reformatting/rebuilding with XP?
run msconfig and disable all back ground processes, also put everything to performance, make sure you have all spyware/virus scans off etc.

I can't wait for this rig, it's going to perform on par if not better than my old alienware desktop...

also a clean install would help as well

I haven't reformatted yet, but I will once I make a raid driver disk sometime. I think the biggest thing is to update to the more current drivers. I know the 80 series drivers have the dual core optimizations in them, not sure that the ones shipped with the laptop have that being from the older 70 series. Other than that I'm still running out of the box for the moment. Let me know if you need any help with the drivers as they are not as easy to install on a laptop without mod'd inf's. Check out the laptopvideo2go website, that should get you up and running better.

I just ran 3dmark06 with 2 major downloads running via wireless, WMP playing some tunes, NAV and anti-spyware running in the background, email and a bunch of other applications up and running, with no GPU overclocking and got 3844.

Haven't been to laptop2go yet, but I decided to shut down every possibly stinking background service that I dared as well as all apps. That left me with 18 services running (still sounds like a lot, but not compared to 50). I did an optimized overclock, ran 3dMark06 again and wound up with a 4349! http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=66173

Time to go gaming.

Very nice score Sager. Glad to see your laptop working so well.

Hey Hulioni,

Can you post your benchmarks for 3dmark05 with the 83.40 drivers? Did you make any tweaks to the .inf file? I'm hitting almost 7000 with the Quality version of the .inf for that same driver set. No OC and everything set to default. Thanks!

Will do. I'll try to do it tomorrow sometime. I don't have any 3DMark on my lappy right now. I didn't do any tweaks to any .inf files. I run 24/7 at 450/1.2, but I'll run the tests at stock, and same settings so you can compare.

Edit - Can you tell me where to get the quality .inf (checked laptopvideo2go and only see the modded .inf)?

Thank Hulioni,

You can adjust the .inf file by going to the "Enhancer" link from the homepage. From there, you can choose which driver set you would like the modded .inf file for and several other settings/tweaks. The three categories are:

Performance or Quality
Issues (this section is mainly for older laptop models)
Tweaks

I changed my .inf to Quality, enabled Side Band Addressing, Thermal Scale (although it didn't allow for temp readings.. worth a try ), and coolbits.

Ok, I know what you are talking about now. I'll do the .inf and run some tests later today. I'll post back with results this afternoon.

As you requested shadedred. I did the .inf with the enhance set to quality from the laptopvideo2go site and set the rest to what you said you were running. Got 7021 with those settings. IQ is much better with these drivers, I like them so far. Not a bad score for quality settings.

I'm getting around 6920-6990, nailed a 7011 once... pretty decent. Quick question - are your Antialiasing/Anisotripic settings/filterings set to Application controlled in the nvidia control panel? I think with the Quality .inf they are set to something other than that. If you got that score with those enabled... pretty impressive.

I did leave the aa and af set to application controlled as that is what they were on after intall with the new .inf. Looks like you are running very good to me. Just wish I had an FX-60 in it now. And to think two years ago I was an Intel fanboy. Glad I saw the light. I see the new drivers leaked today have the 7900GTX go and the 7900GS go listed in the .inf. I want one of those 7900GTX go's also. Now work on your 3DMark06 score and get it added to Yangs list of scores.
