raid0 is not as fast as a raptor, period. Dump the raid0 idea and get a raptor, I promise you won't regret it. I'm currently running a 15k cheetah, however I have run the following HD config within the past couple of years:

2x maxtor 40gig in raid0
2x wd 80gig in raid0
single 36gig raptor
2x 36gig raptor in raid0

The raptor will be far superior then the 2 80's and I don't believe they are that loud, except when you first boot.

I'll go back and read the rest, cause I'm sure I have more to comment on.
So the 80gig RAID 0 isnt nearly as fast as the raptor? hmmm

I disagree.

i don't like having my OS drive function as a data drive. it slows down the computer and welcomes problems.

better off having a raptor for your OS/programs etc, then another HD for data and storage.

It even better if you're encoding video or other HD intensive work, since it spreads out the burden.

there really isn't a right answer to such things. Good luck and I hopeyou're happy with whatever you decide to build.

If you're looking for the ideal hard drive set up while not blowing a fortune, this is it:

Put your OS on a 36 or 74GB raptor as well as your programs. Put all file storage, back up, and most of you page file on the other harddrive. Your other harddrive should ideally be a 250GB+ monster for fastest speeds .

Is there any actual figure saying the actual diffrernce % wise?

Also, if I do that mrk, i might as well go with raid 0 raptors because the second one is going to cost just as much as a 250gb one...

Wow, I just realized that the second hard drive shouldnt really matter because all Im saving on it is media, right? <<if Im going to be putting the os + programs on the other one what is left to put on the second, slower drive?

Also, how much space should windows xp take up?
i think windows take up like 1-2 gb...i think

Thats it! wow, i think ill go with a RAID 0 2x raptor 36gb... Cost $200. Right now, Im only using 25gb on my 9300.

Does this sound way too expensive? I just read a review and the raid 0 setup is almost 2x faster... (huh?)

That, or 1x 36gb raptor + an 80gb 8mbcache 7.2krmp

Any comments?

if ur willing to pay, go 10k raid 0...if not do 1 10k and 1 7k HDD...

If it does not cost any more money other than the two actual hard drives (no controllers or anything?), then I guess I will. Judging by this benchmark, it seems worth it to go RAID0.

in that extreme tech benchmark it CLEARLY showed that 7k in raid 0 is FASTER than a single raptor...why r u getting a raptor and a 7k...u can get another 7k AND raid controller for the price of ONE raptor...also whats with the nvidia 7800 gtx? get a x1900 xt. and get 2 GB of memory :-D

umm... theres no 7.2 RAID 0 on that benchmark, only the raptors in RAID 0.

Also, I chose the nvidia becuase of the mobo and the price of the x1900 is expensive. I can always add on another card to sli.

Also, ill upgrade the ram later because there are 4 slots
