how did you paint the front grill where the speaker holes are? i would think it would clog the holes, but i know nothing of this type of painting. i have often wondered if this could be done. Great job!

Depends on the type of paint you use and how you shoot it. If you use a quality paint, it will tend to wrap it self around the edges of the frame. in other words it wont fill in the holes as long as you sweep the paint evenly and dont concentrait on a single area for a prolonged period of time.

Thanks! I think i'll check into it next week. i didn't want to buy those plastic covers Dell sells. i love the shine of your paint.

Where in AZ are you from? If you're nearby you should help me paint mine.

i think i'll try an old tower case to see how it goes and make any noob errors on it. i am trying to have patience this new year, which things seem to go much smoother when i do. i try to look at the positive, which is that i'll have two fun projects this year instead of only one

Looks very nice. I am thinking about having my cousin do mine in his paint booth. He is one of the best painters in maryland and does some amazing stuff. I might get it in candy apple red over silver metal flake or maybe do the camelian color change paint. Then again I have half a gallon left over of the Dupont Ragging ruby pearl that he painted my race car in.

DECISIONS DECISIONS!!!!

Do any of you know if (and where) you can purchase 9300 casing? I'd like to paint mine, but I know that if anything ever happens and something needs to get sent back to Dell, they won't take back a modded thing...

so I'd like to purchase an extra case just for safe keeping... but I can't seem to find it anywhere in Dell's store, or on eBay.

That looks great. I want to paint mine too, but it's too expensive at the moment.

I was thinking grey trim and black inside.

Ian: you can buy the chassis parts from spare parts. I think Dellbert posted the part #s for the XPS-2 chassis (which is the same as the 9300 but obviously, with a black trim).

Where is a good place to buy paint of this caliber and grit paper etc for this job online?

i bought the sandpaper from Lowe's or Home Depot (can't remember which) for less than $5/pack. don't know about the paint yet.
