Apples to Oranges...

Didn't we do a similar thread for M170 vs. Xbox 360?

You really can't compare the two. The Inspiron 9300 (and it's successor) are supposed to be used for playing media, games and general all-around PC versus a unit primarily geared to playing video games.

Also comparing the graphics wouldn't be fair.

As the 9300 technology is a year and a half old and the exclusive games for 360 are developed to optimize its hardware. Look at PGR3, Fight Night 3, DOA4, etc.

PC games are made to scale to hardware, so developers aren't developing games to play primarily on a 7800 GTX 512, X1900XTX or G71.

Is that ATI card really that powerful? I cannot understand if it is. Is it PCI-e Or AGP?

Well, I'm thinking that I only play Far Cry on my 9300.
Personally, I'd be better served to sell the 9300, buy a lesser computer -- I'm thinking Toshiba Satellite M550S139 for $750 or a Compaq V2000--- and get an XBOX 360

Sharp, check this out:
It's obviously 360 biased, but it gives a run down of the hardware:

we're talking about JUST games here, not portability,media...etc a 200$ system can do most of the things an i9300 can do.

CO Fat Tire Heh so it is... wow. thanks yer definatly biased because i doupt the ps3 spec is totaly confirmed.. but it does seem nice enough to me. I think its the fast RAM and processor thats helping it majorly. ATI's 500mhz clock isnt convincing enough for me.

Must everyone just choose to have one and not both? Matter of fact, why not complete the trifecta and get the PS3 when it comes out?

Yes I know that's an extra $300 (or more including the PS3), but still...

well I for one am far from rich, and i can DEFINETLY only own one platform, and IMO this laptop costs too much to justify using it purely for gaming. at one point you gotta take a long hard look in the mirror and realise your putting your hobby over your priorities, or at least spending way too much money on something that is not that important. after all people its just games. Someday when i have 200k in the bank i'l own a great pc and all the consoles, but for now i'm 21 years old and i've come to realise spending 2000$+ on gaming is just insane.

Yeah, that stinks, but if you've got a budget, then you have to make some hard choices.

If all you ever use it for is gaming, then drop the expensive computer.

I know what you mean. I've tried buying the consoles to replace PC gaming a few times with the PS1, Ps2, and then Xbox. Each time I ended up back on the computer because I seem to prefer that gaming interface better.

To each their own though; I am lucky enough to afford both if I wanted to, but no reason to get the XBOX360 until I get a HDTV. Hopefully Dell will have a good sale shortly.

Any person who has really played a lot of PC games over the last 5-10 years knows how much console games can suck in comparison. A guy I know who did level design for FEAR said that everyone in the company hates consoles because that market forces the game companies to, in his words, "dumb down" the games in regards to controls and general game play.

Also, you get a PS-whatever, and you are stuck with that video card for 5 years. If I had to use the same video card in my computer for more than 2 years, I'd shoot myself.

So, if you personally love console games and only bought a PC as a replacement for a console, then go for it; sell it and get a console.

Sorry to rant so much, but I've been helplessly watching some of the best FPS titles slide into the toilet as they start being geared more and more towards console play. It's been really disappointing to witness.

well, in a laptop you basically are stuck with the same gfx card.

If you can afford it, get both. If you are on a tight budget, you can't beat the price of console gaming. Console and PC gaming have their individual strengths and weaknesses. Consoles have the best fighting games, racing, action, platform, sports, japanese games and RPGs, offline multiplayer, single player, etc. PC games have the best FPS, RTS, MMO gamess, sims, western RPGs, etc. In terms of online games, its about equal since consoles (esp next-gen) fully support online games. There will also be more MMO games for next-gen consoles too. BTW, I have PS2, 360, 9300, and 700m.

Not anymore. A 9300 owner could have gone from a, what, X300? to a 6800, to a 6800 Ultra, and now to a 7800GTX. In less than 12 months.

EDIT: But I see your point. But 5 YEARS. Ick.

yeah but whats after the 7800gtx? i dont think there will be many more upgrades. we just got lucky.

Also I was thinking about how consoles have always been inferior to PC's and your right, i've been gaming on pc's for a good 5-10 years on and off and this statement has been proven, BUT now, for the first time a console comes close or even beats a high end PC. this is where my big decision making has come in to play. sure an XBOX1 wasnt much better than a pc when it came out, but look at the current situation. its much different.

I eneded up going with a laptop beacuse all of my friends were gaming on computers. I see your point on how its alot of money to spend on gaming.
