Need help with setup

Since I'm getting my refund sometime this weekend, I am trying to get all my parts for my new computer ready, but I have encountered a problem. I had decided on getting the AMD Athlon X2- 4400+ (which is a dual core processor), but I have not heard or read too many reviews on it. What do you guys think about the processor?

Also, is this a good setup?:

(added) Aspire Black X-Cruiser Case ATX Mid-Tower Case

Biostar NF4SLi-A9 NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 X2-4400+

Microsoft Windows XP Professional DSP w/ SP2

1GB DDR400 PC3200 Non-ECC Memory

250GB Serial ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive

16X DVD+R/RW-R/RW Dual Layer Drive

52X32X52/16x CDRW/DVD Combo Drive

BFG 7800GTX OC 256MB PCIE VIDEO CARD

Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic Sound Card

Intel PRO/1000 GT Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

EDIT: Buying 19' monitor and Logitech z5500 surround sound

I've never used one myself. From what little I read and asked around before I bought mine in I figured buying a cheaper chip and going from there. I wasn't sure how much the high powered processors really helped with gaming compared to spending the money on ram and a good video card. I opted for the ram/video card and bought the 160$ 3000+ venice amd chip.

Didn't answer your question, just thought i'd comment on my decision. was debating the same thing a month ago.

Well I have decided due to all the reviews on newegg. There was not 1 bad review!!!! Read them and see what I'm talking about: http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustRa...gesize=&Page=1

that is a super set up. see if you could add in a raptor drive and you will have a fine machine running.
or you could opt for the opteron 165 or 170. great for overclocking

Sounds like a winner. I if you've got the funds I'd go ahead and shoot for more ram. It's not much of an issue now but if you're going to upgrade to vista in the future you'll need it. I've got the same sound card and speaker set up and your in for a real treat there. The sound is incredible. And just curious but what psu are you running?

How long do you think the computer will last before I have to upgrade it for gaming?
Quite a while. My 6800GT still runs everything just fine. Haven't tried Fear yet though so not sure about that one. Like I said the only thing that may come up in the near future would be the ram due to Vista. You've got a winner there otherwise.

Prolly a few years would be my guess. My friends pc with the 6600gt still runs most games good.

I am changing my mind on the biostar motherboard. I've read some very bad reviews at newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustRa...gesize=&Page=2

EDIT: on the reviews I saw that most problems were with overclocking and bad wiring. So I am still gunna get it but not from newegg. (evry part will come from tiger direct)

Sry I hadn't got to the psu yet. I found a pretty cool one but not sure if it is what I need for my system. Link to it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=A9B09ZK9BZJQ6

Do you think this is wat I need for it?

An opteron would be a great alternative. they OC well and run quite cool.

i DETEST those psu's. My friend insisted on buying one for the desktop i was going to build for him, and its AWFUL. The 12v rail was rinning at like 11.2 volts. The computer wouldnt even boot unless there was enough of a spike in the capacitors to start it. seriously, stay away from it. Just get a standard atx psu and be done with it.

Heres mine, powers everything in my sig with ease, and i lioe it.

I'm not an expert with psu's, but that sounds like that was a problem with just that one. Also, where did he order it from?
i have an ultra x and even though people have said it sucked, it runs decent on mine. its 12v rail always at 12.08 for me. So no problem so far; but then again i got it for super cheap.
if i'm goin to spend like 100 i'd either get the antec or a little more for an ocz

Thnx for your quick review. I'm gunna get it. But what do you think about the motherboard I choose? (it's in the list at the top, its the one that says "biostar")
well if you spend that much money on the system, why not get a dfi board or at least an aus a8n sli premium

Well heres the bad part..... right now I'm living at home with my parents and my parents don't have to pay anything for the apartment (including phone bills, electric bills, etc...) since my dad is the super of the building and is required to live in it. So if something happens between me and the other people in the building, we get kicked out and he loses his job. O and the other people in the building are sooooo rich that they buy cars for their kids that can't even drive yet. (yea it's one hell of a rich building) (I don't like really rich people) But we are the only people living on the first floor (of 25 floors) O and NY is the best state in the world. ( Execpt for the terrorist attacks, terrorist threats, huge rats that look like they just took some steriods, and the rich part of Manhattan)
