Accessing my external hard disk drive...

Thread Starter
Hi,

I've recently made my old notebook harddrive into an external harddrive after my computer's motherboard fried. I've been trying to access my old files (ie my documents) but keep getting an "access denied" message. Is there any way to get through to my files? On my previous computer, i had a log in password and am thinking that may be the root of the problem, but i'm not really sure. Any input would be great.

Cheers!

I think that password is your problem. Try Google, there are some programs that will allow you to acces those pass-protected files.

if you're using winxp home, boot into safe mode as admin. properties the hard drive and reclaim in in the security tab. if you're using winxp pro, disable simple file sharing in folder options. then properties the hard drive and reclaim it in the securities tab.
