Another problem with my sager laptop, hmmmm....what a suprise.

I am new to this so I want apologizing in advance if I am breaking any forum’s rules.

I have an np5660 for just a little more than a year now. I don’t know about other people, hopefully you have had better luck than me, but I am definitely not going to purchase a sager as my next laptop . Specifications were top notch, but quality and reliability has been a nightmare. From this laptop, I have learned to be skillful at RMA!!!

But now a new problem has arise for me to add to my long list. My battery is going crazy. Percent drop from 100% to 7% in under 5 mins! Battery seems like it doesn’t get charge, although it appears like it did. My total running time on battery can’t be more than 15mins. Before, I get about 40 minutes on run time (max). I have tried to completely discharge my battery, then charge it completely full (tried lots of time), but it doesn’t fix the problem. (Lucky for me, my 1 year warranty with sager has just expired, and I found out that my extended warranty doesn’t cover battery! Hmmm….I wonders why?)

Has anyone ever experienced this problem?
Would any expert know what wrong and hopefully how to fix it?
Do you think the battery is dead?
Can you please tell me about how long your laptop last on battery?
How often does battery needs to be replaced?

All reply is greatly appreciated!!!

It's very likely your battery is kaput. They do wear out you know. Just like in cars, flashlights and everything else. Its unusual for it to do so in just one year, normal is more like 18 months to 36 months depending on useage. There are too many factors in that to list them all, which is why the extended warranties don't cover batteries.

A year is pretty good for a battery. I only got 3 to 6 months out of my IBM batteries. 12 in 3.4 years. Lucky work paid for those dang things, and the lappy for that matter.

My old faithful P2 200mhz Dell Latitude's battery has lasted 5 years and still going strong.

I hope my Sager does the same

Your battery is dying, within a week or so it will be dead overnight.
The instant you'll remove ac power it will turn off the machine.

This is how it happens: 3-4hours of power for a year, then during one week it will only hold 20 minutes, then a few days later it will die.

This will even happen if you have the machine on ac power and never leave it on battery (yes even once) for a whole year.

This is why I remove the battery when I receive laptops, and use old batteries.

PS:// Never store batteries that still hold charge, always full drain them before storage.

Wow! Gold, you have totally predicted my problem. My battery is completely dead now. Are all laptop like this? Sager just disappoint me more and more.

Damn warranty, I knew there was a reason why it was only $149 for extended 2 years. Other extended warranty such as one from Bestbuy COVER BATTERIES, !!!

Ps: thanks for the reply everyone!!

yes...all batteries are like this. they eventually can't hold a charge anymore and die. none of them can last forever. this isn't the laptop's fault.

Plain bad luck, maybe? I"ve got a Sony VAIO FX-120 that I bought used 2 years ago and it's traveled to Asia a couple times, Canada and all over the Continental US. Lots of traveling and usage, but the battery's still going. Not strong- never been strong, but no less than when I first bought it I don't think.

Bummer that you're having issues w/ your Sager. I'm heavily leaning towards buying one soon. Hmmm...

I truly wish you guy the best of luck on your sager, but for me, I just had enough. I swear my next laptop isn’t going to be a sager. Like I said before, performance and prices was top notch, but quality and reliability has been a nightmare. It might look durable, but it not. About every 3 months, something stupid goes wrong with it. I am sick and tire of sending it back for RMA. I paid 2,300 dollars for it. I really don’t want to invest any more money on something that I found to be a piece of junk, and the WARRANTY SUCK! THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING FROM SAGER. READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY, ESPECIALLY THE WARRANTY (it is cheap, but because it doesn’t cover a lot of things such as the batteries. THERE ARE EXTENDED WARRANTIES THAT COVER BATTERIES. Don’t listen to them when they tell you why, it is just an excuse.)

Gary,
If the Ford's tires wear out only after one year of normal driving, YES I WOULD BE MAD

Trust me; you don't want me to list all the things that went wrong with it!
If you never had a problem with your sager; then good for you. But until you have experience what I have, don’t judge me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion!

My experience with the Sager 5660 (One year usage) :-
----------------------------------------------------

Primary battery has been changed twice - secondary battery has never been changed.
Sager changed batteries without question.

they changed the primary battery for me for free one week after my warranty went out which I think is awesome - I guess you just have to coax them into it...they arent that bad really...

I dont know what to make of this

I, for one, would really like to see the full list of problems (maybe a new thread). I am considering the 8790, and while the probelms may be different (or not at all), it would be enlighting as long as it is factually and not emotionally presented. BTW, the normal life of a battery is about a year. Unfortunately, if you use the laptop plugged in and do not use the batteries they see to die much quicker. The same can be said if you recycle them completely several times a day/week. Batteries are expensive and I understand the feeling about getting "ripped off" even though we aren't.

If "all" batteries do this, How come my 5 year old dell laptop(said above) still has 100% battery capacity? It was heavily used when it served its time as a modern laptop, and occaisionally for the rest of its life.

Does Sager happen to replace the batteries after they die? I dont want to spend $300 every year when they go bad
post #15 of 16
i think you stepped in crap (good luck) with that dell battery lasting 5 years...
at my old job we used dell laptops, and those damn batteries used to die all the time..didnt last more than a year usually....50/50 at best....it's all a conspiracy i'm sure...

Your Dell batt is probably a nicad. Longer life, prone to memory problems if not cycled properly. 5 yrs is still lucky, and u r the ace of batt cycling.
