OMG - Pionner now has a slot loading DVD burner for notebooks -

Does anyone know if this will fit in a 9300???

No reason it shouldn't. I think the slimline formfactor is standardized.

any1 know how quite this drive is? because i find the stock DVD read/CD write drives from dell (9300's) are really loud.

They both require special more expensive media so I'll pass on it...

Ditto here. Been using it for about 4 months witht great results. I wish the faceplate filled up just a bit more of the room, but I really like it.

is it quiet?

I probably won't touch it due to the reliability issues I've had with previous desktop slot-loading DVD drives (also by Pioneer).

yeah i had an issue (it broke ) with the cheap slot of fur desktops

Although there is probably more to go wrong in a slot loading drive I have never had a problem with any that I have had (1 laptop pioneer, 1 laptop panasonic and 6 desktop pioneers)...

Fry-man22, that is the case with all slimline drives, they don't have the custom faceplate that dell's drives have. For those that are wondering, these are the gaps talked about (drive is the panasonic):

hmm thanks for the pic.. does the fact there is a gap result in the slot "jiggling" about due to the gap? or is it fixed in that position desipite the gaps?

BTW, any difference btw all the brands of the drives?

Im gonna get one along with a 100gb 5400 to upgrade my soon to come 9300.

Meh..I'll pass. I already have DVD burners for my laptops. It would be nice if Dell offered slot loading drives tho

I'm looking into buying an aftermarket DVD burner for a 9300. Anybody know if the NEC one from newegg fills up the slot as well as a stock one would, or if there's gaps like with the slot loading one?

For the person that asked, when playing DVDs it's quite, but when it burns it burns at the full 8x (it builds up to 8x) and when it spins to the higher RPMs it's loud. There is no wobble, it's just as solid as the stock drive.
