New Pioneer DVD Burner - Slot Loading - Page 3

i know it wont work for the slot load but cant you pop the faceplate off the dell drive and put it on the other one?

I got my 6750 today and have installed it. The face plate from my TSST CD-RW/DVD-ROM that came with my 9300 fit perfectly and looks great! The OS detected the drive with no problems. I have not burned yet, but will report back soon! I have been looking into firmware and such and have a few bits of info:

1. The firmware that shipped on mine is 2.01, anyone get a different one?

2. This web site claims that the 6750 and 6751 (LableFlash http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/12332) have the same hardware and only differ in firmware and hit that a modified firmware could enable LableFlash on the 6750! Time will tell and here are the 2 links that talk about it:

http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/6750/

http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/7550/

I will update as I have more info!

DigitalOverlord, got the same firmware here. Yea I looked at Liggy's site, it would kick ass if then could mod their firmwares to enable lableflash or DVD RAM support, since the 6750 - 7551 are all the same drives. I love how NEC doesn't even list this drive on their website yet (as far as I could find anwyay), spanky new

Well.... due to work I have not had time to run the 6750 through the paces yet, but I wanted to post a comment on the drive.

The drive seams to be a tighter fit and the drawer seams sturdier than the TSST drive that it replaced. I will try to get a better test review done soon!

is it easy to install? I,m interested in getting one but on your pic it doesn't look like it fits perfectly like the stock one...i'm kinda worried about the gap.

im probably gonna get a slot loader... i like slot loading, very mac-esque.

Yes its easy to install. Remove 1 screw, pull the existing one out and slid the new one in. Also Yes there is a gap although from what people have said it doesn't cause any problems.

Thanks! Do you know where i could buy they can ship to Canada?

No need for drivers or anything like that right?

Yeah, the gap is very small, although you can fit a CD in it if you use a bit of force - but that would be stupid...

As has already been mentioned, you will get this gap with all drives that are not from Dell and for this chasis (or similar). Of course, if it fits - which it appently does, you can change the faceplate as long as it isn't a slot drive.

The faceplate fit perfectly on the NEC 6750 I bought.

Does Dell ship NEC 6750? or do I have to buy it online? What are the best brands for DVDRW?

Got my Pioneer from newegg also. Should be standard equipment, I love it!

I got it as a second drive on my AW 7700 notebook and I am having some problems. I have been troubleshooting for two days now and can't get it to do its job.

What is the best DVD+/-R for laptops? That can copy huge files like 4gb without any errors and on a decent speed like 8x??? any ideas? because what I had expierence with DVD writers that some of them barley copy big data files from 3-4gb and if they copy them, they only work with the same type of dvd writers, no other place.

just noticed that newegg now has a pioneer K06 instead of K05...i think it just adds DVD-RAM
