I am sorry to put doubt in your purchase decision. It is not my intention in this case, I guess I am just frustrated with it as I seem to be exhausting all of my tech support/troubleshooting options... and yes its the Pio DVR-K05 that is giving me problems.
I bought it because people raved about it (well, at least when it was just coming out) and because I am used to quality products from Pioneer, but as my tests show, see links below, there is nothing ro rave about with this drive on my Alienware Laptop.Maybe thats why its NOT working at its full potential... because its in a notebook?
The whole reason why I bought it WAS because it fit perfectly in my notebook and was a better match to my stock drive, a MATSHITA that is installed with the system. Its slim and I thought that design idea was ment for notebooks, more than anything else.
Instead of putting some huge logs here, I am linking you to my results. You will also be able to see the other drive (MATSHITA) which came with the system and how IT compares to the Pioneer drive:• Nero Music CD Write Error Log• Pioneer DVR-K05 Test in Nero• MATSHITA UJ-845S Test in Nero• Nero InfoTool Results"Communication failure"
seems to be the recurring problem as reported by Nero. Upon inspection of the drives I do not see any way to change these drives from master to slave, so I am stuck there. The drives are being recognized, DMA is on for both. The Pio drive reads slower than the stock MATSHITA, but at least it reads, it just won't burn. Ripping is what I got this drive for as it claimed some advancement in optics technology and other mechanisms that would allow the drive to possibly outperform my stock drive.
I have already swapped slots with no good results. My next attempt will be to leave the Pio drive on its own (remove the stock drive) and see if it behaves any differently. I am getting tired of opening the laptop though.
Any help would be appreciated.
