9600 does it use the systems ram?

Is it true?? does the alienware use the system ram for the graphics chip or does it have its own ram seperete from the systems?

umm...to my knowledge the 9600 has 128mb ram on the card itself. Not sure if thats what you mean

The card has its own Ram witch is seperated to the system RAM

Thanks, I was neerly put off getting an alienware Area-51m2 cus someone said it used the system ram, meening the memory banwitth would be majourly hammperd luckly it ist. Ich, subotai

Embedded video cards, low end cards and really old cards use system memory, be assured that most cards these days use on-board memory

Thanks For the help everyone, I am definetly going 4 an alienware (after a lot of dithering between the sagers voodoo pc and alienware). Look out for a review soon, hopefully the lengthy waiting times dont extend to the Uk.

lol i am still waiting for mine, ordered on Dezember 1st. Germany and UK might be same shipping time, for both countrys they are build in Ireland.

The Alienware Sentia uses system (or shared) RAM.

You're going to love the 51m!

HE! HE! Im just looking forward to the look on the faces of the people in my college class when I take the Area-51m2 out, JAWS HITTING FLOOR WARNING! JAWS HITTING FLOOR WARNING! lol All we got in the class are desktops with original 1.8 ghz pentium 4s and sis650 integrated graphics BLEH!

if by some chance an applicaiton causes the card to use up all of its dedicated memory, then yes i would use system memory. Howver the chances of an application using up 128MB is very rare.

These have 8x agp slots so any system access will be pretty quick anyways.
