Unofficial 5720 World OC Record?: 8102 3DMARK05' Marks, No Hardware/voltage Mods!!! - Page 5

i did it exactly like that but a little different

safemode was not cooperating (or I forgot my admin PW!) so I followed all directions except for being in safe mode. One would think this might make a diff but I was still able to clean and re-install.

In order for your OC to stick you must do the following exactly:

1. First you must properly UNINSTALL your nVidia display driver via ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS

2. Do a google for DRIVER CLEANER PROFESSIONAL if you already don't have it (It would be wise to do this BEFORE you attempt any driver UNINSTALL).

3. After UNINSTALLING your drivers via ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, when you reboot, make sure you hit F8 and enter 'STANDARD PLAIN VANILLA SAFE MODE'.

4. Run DC PRO, then run the included CAB CLEANER and 1st CAB CLEAN "DRIVERS.CAB" (There will be two of these, just clean the first example you see). This will take a while so be patient while this does its thing.

5. After CAB CLEANER has cleaned "DRIVERS.CAB", select "SP2.CAB" (Again there will be two of these, just clean the first example you see). This will not take very long, almost there.

Note: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CAB CLEAN BUT IT IS RECOMMENDED BY DC PRO

6. Now from the menu bar of DC PRO, select "DRIVER CLEANER", make sure you select "nVidia", run "Driver Cleaner", THIS WILL CLEAN OUT ANY REMAINS THE UNINSTALL OF THE GPU DRIVER YOU JUST PERFORMED DID NOT CLEAN VIA XP ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.

7. After this has completed, reboot normally into XP, once there the "Found New Hardware wizard" will initiate. CANCEL OUT OF THIS, WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT CARRY ON WITH THIS.

8. Assuming you have already downloaded the LAPTOPVIDEO2GO.COM 82.65 Forceware, install the forceware as you would any other GPU driver using setup.exe. Make sure you 'cut and paste' the "MODDED .INF" file into the 8265 extracted directory or when you run setup.exe you won't be able to trick your system into thinking your installing a 7800 Go GTX driver.

9. Reboot when prompted and you should be in OC nirvana.

The reason your OC does not "STICK" is because you're probably uninstalling your GPU driver with DC PRO and not following the correct procedure of removing the driver via ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS first and then using DC PRO to wipe the rest of the driver XP does not wipe when using ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.

Let me know if you have any questions and good luck... This should resolve your issue.

Still didn't work.... any idea?

BTW my bios version is 5.70.02.19.12

ah wait... the dell xps seems to be bios locked. afaik the xps gen2 was and the newer xps m170 is too. thats a dell thing you know (but correct me if i'm wrong)

.............. I was hoping someone can figure out how to manually O/C the 7800 gtx in the Xps. That way I can O/C w/o flashing Bios. I done the Bios flash with my 6800 ultra many time, so Im very comfortable w/ flashing bios. Just this time I was hoping to get manually to work that way I can O/C when play game and set it back to default when not playing games. Oh well all I can do is hope that your wrong Vollgasasi.... right....

Ahhhhh IC, if the BIOS is locked on the XPS2/M170 then you're pretty much SOL unless you flash it.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help and good luck!

How so high?

Ok. I've followed instructions carefully, and have succesfully oc'd my gpu.
I can't run doom 3 @ over 427/1100 without crashing. Comp shuts down completely. Did you guys oc just to get a 3d mark score or are your settings for permanant gaming? WTF and all that.

Am I missing something?

Freaky,

I obtained 8102 for 3DMARK05' ONLY. I would never actually game at a frequency anywhere north of maybe 7600 3D Marks.

When your system starts crashing, this is your computer's way of saying enough is enough. You better stop before you smoke your CPU (Assuming you have PATA and your OCing your FSB)/GPU and hopefully you haven't already done any damage.

427/1100 is an extremely low threshold to be crashing, I recommend backing down to 400/1100 and report the crashes to Sager and mention you think they are CPU/GPU related. Let Sager inspect your CPU/GPU for a proper application of thermal grease. Sounds like your system has a suspect application of thermal grease.

Good Luck!

Actually, 420/1100 is stable. After a crash, I would wait about 30min before I restarted to cool down. (I have sata so I can't oc my cpu.) I played for an hour at this setting w/no problems. Just wondering, at what setting do you game?

(BTW, BF2 never looked so good! great difference w/this unlocked driver)

i only oc'd to see how far I could go. After benchmarking I set it AT LEAST 1/2 wqay back to default. It runs much more stable and still gives you some extra juice. Be careful nobody wants a dead laptop.

i run at 430/1200 all day/night at least when gaming

Well, I was able to oc my cpu to 2.53Ghz after I installed the pata drive with the pata adapter. I got in excess of 8100 3dmarks in 2005, I will post the link later. I also ran my gpu at 470/1200. If I go any higher I get artifacts etc.
I usually run mine constant at 450/1200.
I have also noticed a considerable decrease in hdd loading times etc since I changed to the pata drive.
