It's got to be a problem with that unit. Absolutely none of the other reviews point out a negative about the screen. Even those reviews that mention other weaknesses don't bring them up and if it was a problem you would think that at least one would have mentioned it. The Flash product tour is available on Acer.com now and they go so far as to say it has a "high-brightness screen for unmatched viewing comfort". Man I hope it's just a problem with yours and not a part of a larger problem. I will be so disappointed since I have decided this to be my next laptop if more start showing up like that. I hope you get yours back soon and it's everything you expected.
