Unfortunatly, I have not had a good experience with IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads. I ordered a T43 and it was built badly and had to be returned. My replacement ran for 36 hours before the mainboard died and now they want me to have it repaired.. after only having it for 2 days!!! I'm going to try to return it and just say screw it for now.

Yes definitely go the repair route. I used this before and had no problems. The turnaround is very quick and if you bitch and moan they will even upgrade your shipping so this way you wont get it in 5 days.
You also should know that the T series is IBM's top of the line model and dedicate allot of resources just to this model. Anyway my laptop even though is the 15 inch model is light enough (but remember i used to use my alienware for travel ). Anyway believe me that even the last time when i had $4000 to blow on a laptop i checked out all the other companies (including Falcon and voodoo) spent over 6 months doing so and talking to their people and frankly i just couldnt not get the ibm. I own everything from boutique laptops to store bought (Toshiba) (i will not even consider a Sony and a Hp/Compaq) and to be honest i truly love my IBM. In fact i was using a dell 700m since christmas and i ended up selling it to a friend because i still love my ibm so much. My next laptop ( i like to buy a laptop every 6-9 months) will probably be an apple (not for business just for personal use).

What makes me say that is I currently have sitting on my desk a Z60 for test purposes that the IBM rep dropped off before my organization buys another batch of laptops. Currently we're primarily using T42's and T41's and you can feel the difference in the quality. Any other questions I'd be happy to answer them.

My statement was a joke. But anyway. I also own both dell (desktop and laptop) and ibm (both desktop and laptop) so im biased toward both sense i like them both. but like i said earlier, my t43p is an awesome awesome machine with the best keyboard and built quality. I would than say my alienware area 51 (the 16 inch model) follows after and then my 700m. But you cant go wrong with either company because they all stand behind their products (and this is even if its your fault (like frying a motherboard from dell which they replaced the next day)).
