9750 Freeze & Crash

I noticed that when I have my internal wifi card enabled, my computer randomly freezes. Here's what I usually see on bootup after a crash:

I e-mailed Sager tech support regarding this error, but I wanted to know what you guys think. Any ideas how to solve this problem?

i keep mine disabled unless i'm at a hotspot. i forgot to disable it last night and it froze early this morning.
log had an acpi error, presumably from the time of the freeze:

The embedded controller (EC) hardware didn't respond within the timeout period. This may indicate an error in the EC hardware or firmware, or possibly a poorly designed BIOS which accesses the EC in an unsafe manner. The EC driver will retry the failed transaction if possible.

that error has appeared before but this was the first freeze.
i'll guess that some irq juggling could resolve it but i'll just keep mine turned off.

let us know what you find out.

I get an ERROR event records with the ACPIEC:

\Device\ACPIEC: The embedded controller (EC) hardware didn't respond within the timeout period. This may indicate an error in the EC hardware or firmware, or possibly a poorly designed BIOS which accesses the EC in an unsafe manner. The EC driver will retry the failed transaction if possible.

This is the internal wireless card related issue ? I just disabled the card, not that i use it anyway with the ethernet cable around.

So it seems that this is a general 9750 issue. I hope Sager is doing something to fix this, because I need to use the wifi card to access the network at my workplace.

hey cf, did you email Sager bout this ?

Hmmm,

I was using my internal wi-fi this week at the hotel with not problem. Except for the crappy throughput from the hotel network.

I have had no problems with the internal card at all.

It was frozen again this morning without the wireless card turned on.
Rather the screen was blank and wouldn't come back on. Those were the symptoms before.
The fan was running and after reboot the log showed it had done everything it was scheduled to do overnight.
I'm turning off the the hardware screen saver and enabling the "Blank" software screen saver instead.
Maybe that will resolve it. It will probably take a month or two to know...

Sorry to hear about all your problems. Hope you resolve them quickly.
Had my 9750 for a month and haven't had any problems with my Wi-Fi, but I don't have my screen saver or stand-by enabled. I'm working thru a Linksys
router with a G network expander. Also, I've been running the CPU at 1.00GHz along with my homemade laptop table with fan underneath cooling the complete unit. I been playing COD2 and Pacific fighters and have never gone over 56C. Maybe the heat has an effect on the Wi-FI card.

Nope! I run my 9750 with both cores at 100% 24/7 running 1 instance of F@H on each core. I've briefly seen temps as high as 65C. I've never had problems with my wireless connection which is always on. Have you tried the latest Ralink drivers for the 11g RT-2500? That's what I'm using albeit for x64 instead of XP. Very stable and no connection issues. The XP drivers may be worth a shot if you are having problems. If the Ralink drivers don't fix it, it must be a bad card. I've never had freezes or BSODs. My 2 cents...

Sorry, this is not just a 9750 issue. It is also a 4750 issue. In other words I make it a Clevo issue.

Curiously, I get these log entries under 32bit Windows XP but not under 64 bit. However, I get these entries and my machine is rock solid so far.

So I say: keep looking.

Backup immediately!

I started experiencing this exact Error message after a BoD out of nowwhere last week.

Never before.

Since then, the System started freezing out of nowhere in all kinds of different applications. Then today, after pretty much exactly two month of operation one of the RAID-0 Disks failed and the system is now useless. After the first ordered system was delivered damaged (Display quit on day 2) and it took 30 days to get a replacement (international order to Europe), I am done with the system. I lost work and important files.

Considering the shipping cost I will ask Sager to take the System back and refund my money. This will have been a very expensive lesson for me.

I was also very disappointed that the drivers for the grafix card were impossible to update, as nvidia didn't support the NP 9750s' GPU IDs. This having been one of the biggest points for me for getting this system, I am totally disappointed, considering Sager is called an "Nvidia launch partner".

It appears that my problem with video not "waking up" after the power prfile turned off the monitor has been solved with a bios update from Sager. Norton says it's "PTLTD - 6040000 KBC/EC Firmware Revision: 1.00.02S5"
Windows says it's "Phoenix 4.06CJ15, 1/11/2006"
it will take another few weeks to be sure.

In the "Closing the barn door after the horse ran away" department, ALWAYS have a current backup. especially with raid 0...
I've seen someone talking about ways to get nvidia updates to run against the sager card. it's on this board somewhere. i saw it when searching for Bios.

all in all though i have to say that i'm not as happy with sager as i was when i bought the 8890.

Well, the graphics issue is not Sagers' fault, they have informed Nvidia about the issue but nvidia hasnt done anything about it yet. I have also emailed nvidia about their false statements and got the reply that my email was "fowarded to the respective department". I must say nvidia is loosing a lot of the high ground it held with me. It's not like Sager can do much about it. Even as a launch partner.

The trick to get the fresh drivers is getting the hacked ones (GPU-IDs are not checked during installation) from laptopvideo2go.

I do have a backup, but nonetheless it sucks big time to loose a weeks work and even more to have to go back to your old slow system. That's a four digit money's worth and some sleepless nights to make the extended deadline.

Good to read about the power profile thing - I guess that was the issue with the first unit I received. Ever got the display to light up again without the BIOS update? I sent my unit back and had to wait 30 days for the replacement (because german credit cards are not valid for the US as it seems)

And now here's the really strange deal: After the drive was reported broken by the RAID controller and kept crashing windows on boot in safe mode, I set the RAID to type 1 (mirroring) and installed XP on the working drive. Then I wanted to test the other drive by mirroring, and strangely it mirrored perfectly, no errors.

So as to the fact it was a clean install, I have been loading the drives with data and they are fully operational, even in a new RAID-0 config.

But since the harddrive crash event I'm getting the said Resource Error and it's not going away. Also, when trying to install the drivers for the WLAN card the system freezes. Bluetooth installs fine though.

I've emailed Sager about it, but no replies yet. During the first 7 weeks the adapter worked well, occasionally stopping to function after about half a day. Function-F11 twice and it was back. I'm using a g net at home for the net. Can't see what would start the resource conflict.

I did find a work around for the turned off display. If I put the machine to sleep, Fn-F4, the display came back when it woke up.

I did have a curious slow down on my raid0 disk a while ago. I had the machine do a full disk check including free space and checking for bad spots. It was fine afterward.

Hi Guys,

I have a D900k.

I have been getting a lot of BSOD's after it reboots the error it is getting in the event viewer is either .....\viahdd0 failed to respond after timeout.

and also

\Device\ACPIEC: The embedded controller (EC) hardware didn't respond within the timeout period. This may indicate an error in the EC hardware or firmware, or possibly a poorly designed BIOS which accesses the EC in an unsafe manner. The EC driver will retry the failed transaction if possible.

One thing i have noticed is that the primary Ide controller has a I/O conflict with the mainboard resoures

Input/Output Range 03F6 - 03F6 used by:
Motherboard resources

I cant seem to fix it, I have reinstalled iwndows and installled the drivers on the CD (via, ide, etc..) and the conflict is still there, I have downloaded the newest drivers from viaarena and it is still there, even tried removing both devices that hav the conflict in safemode and roobting, but it is still there,

It is really starting to frustrate me...

Any one have any ideas??
