Overclocking help

I'll be getting a GeForce Go 7800 with my Dell Inspiron 9400 in about a week's time. Does anyone know how this overclocks?

And I've also seen people saying that the same cards are used in different models, and its possible to make the weaker model into a stronger one (such as 9600 PRO to 9600 XT). Is it possible to do this with a Geforce Go 7800 into a 7800 GT/X, and if so, how?

afaik, it's a gtx with ddr1 and massively undervolted/underclocked from stock. people should get similar ram overclocks to the 6800go and the core should overclock just like the gtx at the same voltage.

Your are wrong about the 7800 Go having DDR1 RAM - it has GDDR3 RAM.

It is basicly a GTX card. Look up an article in PCStats.com beginner guide, and you will see that what you need is to flash the BIOS to that of the GTX. Or you could just leave it at the stock BIOS, and just tweak it to up the voltages, and you should see the same card as a GTX. Only thing that might get in the way is the cooling, but it should be sufficent as a GTX in the 9300 still runs reasonable.

What about power supply then? The M170 uses a 130W adapter and 9400 a 90W one? I've read somewhere that you need a 130W if you use a 7800GTX in a 9300, shouldn't it be about the same if you overclock/overvoltage the 7800 in 9400 to match the GTX?

you are sure that they are ddr 3? 7800 go dell 9400

Look up an article in PCStats.com beginner guide link please?!??!?!!

Very good point. Probaly if you wanted to get it to match the GTX exactly you would have to upgrade the power supply, as well as the to the 9 cell, just like in the 9300 mod. This would also involve posibly flashing the BIOS of the motherboard like on the 9300, which would be imposible to do because of the differences in chipset, cpu, and memory frequences. So, now this thing could only overclock so far due to the power supply issue.

Has anyone recieved or tried upgrading the Go 7800 yet? I've never overclocked a laptop GPU before, will it overheat more than a Desktop one?
if it doesnt overheat more than a desktop card, DELL HAS DIscovered something special.

laptops=much less space, much more heat. thats why components have to be lower clocked. thats the reason for the Pentium M's, and thats the reason for the piddly x300 in my 6000 (damnit) (:

They are the same as my overclocks although I only got apprx 5000 in 3DMark 05. What drivers are you using?
Hm...If I buy a 9-cell battery and a 130W powersupply from Dell, can I overclock the 7800 even more, so it can match a GTX?

Also does the I9400 have a temp. censor?

I use the Extreme-G Mobileforce 81.97 drivers

Can you post a link to that? Does it have better performance than the origanal dell drivers(others are saying that they got worse performance with Extreme-G Mobileforce, but it might hae been a different version)? Also, can I install it over the driver already on the laptop?

Here you have it.
Thought i'd try some other drivers today and see if there is any difference.

You might be able to volt mod it if you got the 130 watt adapter and the 9 cell. I think it might be just voltage thats reallly holding this back. Before you volt mod it though, get some AS5 and slap it on first so it doesn't over heat.
