Ok so I am going to buy one....any time now. Let me know what you think.

Asus Z70Va
-Pentium 740
-60gb 5400rpm
-2Gb Ram
$1599


Acer 8100
-Pentium 760
-100gb 4500rpm?
-1Gb Ram
$1599

All of the other specs are standard. Let me get some input ^_^

Get the 8100. Space is more important than another gig of ram.

(plus, I have the 8104 and love it)

ok look if u can ungrade it urself. see if one 1gb of ram is cheaper that 100gb hd

First, space isint that important. Ive never gone over 40 gigs. I dont store movies or anything. All my work contains of is ms office documents, some autocad files, pictures and thats about it. Homelife is just music pictures and games. Secondly the 8100 only comes with 2 x 512mb chips...so that means i would have to buy 2 x 1gb chips. Also ive never touched either of them...so build quilty is a HUGE factor. ^_^

If that's the case, why are you interested in the 8100? Its main abilities are storing a ton of stuff, playing a ton of games, listening to a ton of MP3s and watching a ton of movies. I've filled mine up. Think about it, some of the games out there now (like UT2004) take up 6 gigs, and then the maps take up another 7 gigs. A big hard drive is more important than 2gb ram... unless you'll upgrade the HD yourself and get a nice 120GB 7200 RPM one. You should do this... find out who has put a second gig of ram in their notebook and what the improvement was in anything (yes, including gaming). It probably wasn't worth it.

1gb vs 2gb..huge difference. And the reason for the 8100....I like the looks of it far more than the Asus. If im going to put out $1700 im gona make sure I get what I want you know. As for games, I'm an mmorpg kinda person, possibly a bit of FPS but not the fast pace quake, UT kind...more of the camp, snipe and team skill kind......grr im gonig to hit the buy button this week. I cant wait for the duo cores and im not about to let go of 2k...i could buy mygirlfriend a car for that.

Honestly, I wanted an Acer Travelmate because of their looks for months. I loved it. But every single one I looked at had a cruddy (older) graphics card in it. I was planning to get an Asus or something else with a better graphics card. But then... I found the TM8104. I was SO happy to find a notebook that looked perfect, and yet had great stats (I also wanted a lot of ram and a good graphics card). I bought it as much for its looks, as for its features.

I'd prefer the Acer. I thought it was much more than $1600 though. Dropped in price recently I guess?
