any innovative ideas to cool the 7700?

As my last post said, my mobo got fried after about 6 months and the computer has been sent back for repair almost 3 weeks ago...

I was wondering what the causes of the common mobo failure on the 51m 7700 are?

is it just heat?

in this case, has any one tried any "different" ways of keeping the machine cool? Through my work, I have access to dry ice as well as lqd Nitrogen and was thinking about somehow making a home-made cooling system with multiple fans blowing overy a container which is super-cold (way below freezing temp) and under the maching which is raised up by four spacers at the corners...

any ideas?

moisture...do not do that.

i use the lapcool2, althought at the time lapcool4 was not avalable. here is a pic of my setup for my 7700.

yeah I know what you mean by avoiding moisture, my set up was going to be fully enclosed in a container such that moisture would not be an issue...

does the lapcool really work? is it just fans or is there any cooling mechanism in it as well (similar to an A/c)?

thanks

it works wonders. the lapcool4 will drop temps around 20c if not more.
i was running like 9xc without the lapcool2(same as 4 but smaller base). i never go above 8xc with it on full blast while playing games.

the reason the lapcool2/3/4 are recomended is because none of us have found coolers that accually push air up into the machine, 99% of them take air from the machine, suffocating it.

if you want your cooling to be portable and inexpensive.... go with the lapcool4.

your cooling idea would be cool for a lan party or at your house, i cant see much mobility out of what you have in mind.

EDIT: i just realized i never answerd you question complelty...

yes it is just fans, although the lapcool4 comes with a 4 in 1 card reader and 4 extra USB ports. along with that, it has storage for cables inside pannels underneith.

it has like an aluminium* section around the fans that help disperse heat away from the center of the machine.

i just read that the lapcool4 has the fans spaced out farther then the lapcool2, so it fits under the GPU better.

Well personally I'd go with the cheaper 49 dollar model. My 7700 already has something like 8 in 1 card reader, so that is really just waisted money.

thanks guys. I just have one more question.

Does the lapcool blow air towards the computer or down and away from it?

thanks

hmm there was a dude that did mod his lappy, he made holse in some metal part in side the laptop so air could enter from the keybord to the inside, yet i dont recommend this as water could then KILL your lappy insted of just badly ingering it, also dust and other crap will enter, yet it did lower the temp by 20 so...do your thinking

I think I'm going to get a lapcool and put it on top of few metal pipes packed with dry ice...sort of like modding the lapcool to be more of an a/c than just a fan...I'll let you guys know how this works..

btw, how do you measure the internal temp of the machine? like when you say it was running 20 C cooler, how do you know or measure that?

thanks

It blows up into, unless you have it upside down....the L4 is the best way to go for the 7700 models, it's fan placement is perfect for the 17" rigs...it will noticably lower your temps, and whatever you do, do not screw around with dry ice or nitrogen...it is a not going to work, it will create a moisture issue that will cause you terrible problems and is totally unecessary...if you feel a little something extra is necessary, go with Tridge's idea, it works well also
