Question about the Sager 5720 screen

Is it generally supported to run games / windows at a resolution of 1680x1050 on the 5720's hi-res 1920x1200 screen?

I'm lost between the two because I want the extra hi-res quality of the 1920x1200 but I'm afraid text will be too small, or I won't care and would rather have a performance boost in games running at 1680x1050 instead.

Is it supported to run out of native resolution 1680x1050 on a 1920x1200 screen? Does it scale correctly? Most of all, I'd like to know if it looks ok on the windows desktop or in games running this way...

If anyone with a Sager 5720 with the 1920x1200 screen could answer my questions I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I bought the wsxga 1680x1050 becouse the colors are more vibrant than the wsuga 1920x1200. Look at the 9890 review and you can see the difference. They are displayed side by side. For a 17inch screen, the wsuga res is too small. The xga is perfect. I still have to zoom in when browsing using the one I have, I could only imagine squinting till my eyes popped out with the other res.

if you are using windows, there are ways to make the font any size you want.
my friend has a low rez 9880 and i have the 1920x1200 rez 5720 (sorry i dont know the technical names)
my screen looks much better than his.

i saw the review the 9000 series and considered it, but i took a chance (i preordered my 5720).

the 9000 review doesn't seem to apply to the newer models.

also, i play World of Warcraft at 1920x1200 and its really nice.

I love all the room 1920x1200 gives me for stuff. you can make text any size you want, and windows XP has cleartype if you still decide you don't like the text's crispness. 1680x1050 has the same aspect ratio as 1920x1200 so it scales fine, but using anything other than native resolution in games will makes things that could be crisp blurry (unless you turn off LCD scaling in the nvidia options).

I would go with the WSXGA+ screen. In addition to being more comfortable on your eyes, games are MUCH easier to handle at that resolution than the WUXGA 1920x1200, where even the mighty Go7800GTX will studder in some games.

WSXGA+ gets my vote.

I like my WUXGA screen, yeah I use a lower res for gaming but that's just to reduce stress on the hardware. I love how windows looks in the 1920X1200 resolution though, the text is small but I got used to it, and I have 20 20 vision so I can see everything fine. The extra space on the desktop is also nice. If you'd like a screenshot of what it looks like on my screen let me know.

Post your email and I'll send you a zipped up BMP of the screen. Also, anything in particular you want me to take a screenshot of?

Check your PMs Toad

Replied PMs and sent emails. Wish there was some place where I could host rar files... they are about 200 KB in size, nothing deadly.

just png it and go to imageshack.us

I heard thet reducing it to JPEG or PNG kills quality, but in BMP the thing is huge, it's like 6 MB unRARed, and 170 KB RARed.

the bmp was definetly huge. thanks again. gave me a good idea of the look at that resolution. i had to get newz toolz to see. always learning something new.

1920x1200 !!!!

I love the 1920X1200 resolution. I play some games in 1920X1200 and others in 1600X1024. It just depends on the game, and the fps I get in each setting. The games seem to scale to the lower rez perfectly. I have been playing COD2 at the lower rez with everything on and it is just great. Quake 4 I run at all max settings (ultra settings... I love the 2G of ram) at 1920X1200 and it is stunning!
So, I would deffinitly get the higher resolution screen. I always bump up my text size anyways. It is really easy to do, looks great and is easy to read especially with clear type on.

If you want I can send some screen shots of the different games, desktop etc.

Woa, what are you using to get all those resolutions available? what nVidia drivers do you use? The smallest widescreen resolution my 5720 supports is 1600x1024
