Ok, I am ordering my Insprion 6000 today and I am going to setup a wireless network. What is a good router for home use?

There's lots of threads asking this very question: I recommend you look at them for lots of info.

Having said that, I'm looking to get one myself, and, having looked at the various "best router" threads, I see some votes for Belkin, lots of votes for the Linksys wrt54g, lots for the D-link (usually the 624), some votes for the Netgear, a few votes for wireless access point + wired router, and some votes for the new MIMO versions of the D-link/Belkin/Linksys.

Personally, I'm leaning towards the Linksys wrt54g, since you can seriously customize it.

Thanks, I'll do a search.

These three seem to be good. Which of them would you pick?

Linksys for me...

By sheer numbers of people who have them, it seems the wrt54g is more popular...though I've never heard a bad word about the Belkins...

The 54g is more configurable--you can download and install an entire Linux-based router function on the 54g, and that version is fully customizable, including giving you lots of control of even the wireless antenna transmission power...

This is the one I'm probably going to buy (don't have any real need for 108 Mbps connections...).
And, as I understand it (though I'm not a wireless router expert), the MIMO standard hasn't yet been made, well, an official standard, so any MIMO router you get now has a (small) chance of being incompatible (most likely a patch for one of the pre-finalized MIMO routers will come out after the standard is finalized).

I've got both The Linksys WRT54G and the Dlink DI-624 and I love them both. They both have similar features and range. You'd be very happy with either of those.

- installed 1 at my gf's place
- using 1 in London with my housemates

and its been great.

and recently i bought a Netgear 108Mbps PCMCIA card and i can feel that its bandwidth is pretty gd, even better than my Intel 2200BG mini-PCI card....
