ASUS A6Vm video card swap to ASUS A6K

post #1 of 5
Thread Starter
I have an ASUS A6K Turion MT-30 Notebook ..

ASUS A6K

My dad just bought an ASUS A6Vm Intel Pentium M 700..

ASUS A6Vm

My ASUS A6K is running on an nvidia 6200 128mb w/turbo cache, the ASUS A6Vm is running on a 7300 256mb w/turbo cache ..

physically, both notebooks have the same chassis, and as such the positioning and the layout of the HDD, RAM, CPU, GPU are both the same. I am looking at trying to swap the GPUs over, but am wondering about the ramifications doing so.

My questions are;

- how easily can this job be done?
- what tools do I need?
- am I likely to have a BIOS issue doing so?
- can I bribe ASUS to not reject warranty claims on other items in the notebooks at a later stage, should I have an issue? (heheh)
- is there anything special I need to be aware of, and should I post a worklog in doing so?

Who here has done a similiar job, or who can answer my questions for me?

I am guessing that this is not going to be possible. First of all, it is fairly difficult to open all the insides without messing something up. Also, I am pretty sure the space will not be sufficient enough for the new card. Since the laptops have completely different CPUs, they also have different motherboards, so the layout of the stuff will be much different. Sorry if that bursts your bubble.

Why can't you just trade the whole laptop...?

Maybe he wants to keep the Turion-MT CPU.
