I've engaged Sager directly concerning the BIOS updates and they have ignored my requests. PC Torque has also ignored my emails and simply have shown no interest or desire to escalate on my behalf.

Because of this, my company needed a fleet renewal amounting to 8 notebooks (9750V) and guess what?

No sales for them. Not this time. Instead, I passed opportunity to folks who show they care a little more. I'm sorry to say this but it appears Sager has a very short and selective attention span. We are just not on their radar screen any longer.

Okay will use the above thread for Turion upgrade related comments.

But I have another question re. BIOS versions.

I currently have a 4750 Clone from Germany labeled by Cytron/Medion. It's running a 3.2 DTR CPU with 1GB RAM.

When I use the original 105 (sic!) BIOS from Medion, the HD gets a little hotter, but shows better performance. All compared to the 2.02 BIOS that I also tested.
I found that my 105 Bios has the IDE controller (connected to a Seagate 100GB HD + a Pioneer DVD+-RW) running in DMA mode 5, while 2.02 often switched to DMA mode 2.
I'm running WinXP Pro, so can sb with a similar config check this for Bios 2.02 and 2.04, please?
Open the controller in your system properties - hardware, and look for the DMA mode at your primary IDE channel under IDE ATA/Atapi-Controller.

Please post the results here, also - if possible - for the 2.04 BIOS (M.Santos ???)
If sb can email me the 2.04 BIOS, I will add my results here.

Thanks, Steve

Here are my HDTach Benchmarks for my two BIOS and my HD:

HD: Seagate ST9100823A 3.02
BIOS Medion 105
DMA 5
Random access 16.1-16.4ms
CPU util. 4-8%
Average read: 31.4-32.0 MB/s
Burst Speed 90.1-91.5 MB/s
-----------------------
Eurobook Bios 2.02
DMA 2
Random access: 16.1ms
CPU util. 0%-5%
Average read: 27.7-29.2 MB/s
Burst Speed 32.6-32.7 MB/s

Hmm. Mine is showing Ultra DMA mode 2. I have 2.02 bios. Hard Drive is a new Hitachi 7200 rpm 100 GB.
(edit) Here are the HDTach scores:
Random access 15.8 ms.
CPU util. 0%
Avg. Read 30.6 MB/s
Burst speed 32.9 MB/s

I don't have an old bios available to go back to, and would not go back if I could.

I got a BIOS update that will fix the issue. Please PM me an I will email it to you.

The new bios is version as 2.04a.

Guys, please pass the word around about Eurocom.
They were the ones (yet again) that came through for us Sager 4750 users.

I agree, Sager is too slow and does not deserve our business.

Sorry, but the newer BIOS is no longer 2.04. In fact, we have an active thread that discusses a disk performance issue with version 2.04.

The newer version is 2.04a.

PM me if you need it, i'll try to get back to you in a timely manner. I am extremely dissapointed with sager for this, and will not buy from them again. I love the base notebook (Clevo) but support from Sager is abysmal.

For any of those that are tired of this there is a way for you to build your own notebook (called a whitebook). Check out this link, or do some googleing for whitebook. I looked at building a gaming laptop and it came out to around $1100, only 15.4" screen though.

No kidding? I JUST got this BIOS from them this past Monday, the filename is 879bv10.iso, and it says BIOS Ver: D470K - R2.04 at boot. What a joke... I still cannot understand why they don't just either a) host the BIOS on thier website, or b) tell you that it's just a Clevo D470K and link to a bios for it. Ughh...

How are you even getting these BIOSes from them in the first place- by begging Sager Tech Support ? I can't even find them listed on the Clevo site ! Does anyone have version notes for what bugs were patched, and what enhancements were made ?

Thanks.

No my friend. Sager is hardly the support provider we can be proud of. Most of these BIOS updates are provided by other vendors (Sager competitors).

Please PM me your email if you wish me to email a version of your choice.

I can email you any of the following:

1.04, 1.05, 2.02, 2.04, 2.04a

I have no detailed list of historical changes to any of the above. Just approximations on the issues they are purported to resolve.

bios version

Hi, I bought my 4750v last year around october-november. How can I know what bios version do I have? I cant tell which one of the numbers at bootup is the one i should be looking at.

And if i dont have the lastest bios, how can i update it? (it seems that its hard to get it.. and i've never updated a computer bios before, is it difficult?)

Thank you.

BSD with 2.04a

I had been using 2.02 with the UDMA2 problem. I finally updated to 2.04a, which bumped up the performance to UDMA5; (under the new bios, I get a about 50% boost in hard drive performance) however, now I get A BSD about 75% of the time when I boot into WINDOWS XP.

I downloaded the latest drivers from VIA, but with no success. I can run under safe mode with no problem; therefore, I believe it is a driver issue. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thank you
Bob Sanders

Hi, can anybody PM me the 2.04a bios-version? I jost got my D470k back from Clevo-service just yesterday. They upgrade to 2.04, so I was surprised reading about a newer version 2.04a.....

After upgrading my bios from 1.05 to 2.04, I've experienced random system freezes that I never had before. I tried the 2.04a version, but to no avail. Does anyone still have version 1.05? If so, can you PM me?
