Prism Drivers for 802.11g Internal - something must be done

Thread Starter
Ok there have been a number of threads recently about the poor quality of the current Prism drivers and the complete lack of any new ones. Intersil recently sold the wireless network card division and the new company seems to show no desire to support the cards in anyway.

Can we get an official response from Sager (who also dont provide updated drivers) On the continued use of this card and the possibility of new drivers in the future.

I for one will be looking for a new solution soon , should no new drivers be made available, owing to the extremely poor performance of these drivers under windows xp.

i am going to bump this thread because I tottaly agree with Bratag having just ordered a 5680 myself

Bratag, I also bump.....That is the ONE thing that pisses me off about my lovely 5680. MY PRECIOUSSSSSS......

Bump bump. I agree.

Ok, there is no need to bump a thread when it is already one of the first ten threads in the section.

I also agree, thats the one thing im dissapointed with in my 4080, not just the drivers, but the wifi performance in general. i guess ive been looking for an excuse to buy one of those 200mW cards from senao or zcomax, but all of those are Prism 2.5 as well. i like the orinoco drivers and software that ive had/used on other's machines muchbetter. its a bad sign when the unoffical linux drivers are not only drastically better but actually easier to use than the company-provided ones for windows.

would just like to point out that because you own a 88XX you dont have to worry like some of the rest of us

I was giving my support to the thread, and the idea.

Yeah totally im about to buy a different internal pci card O__O

Does this card that everyone dislikes come with the 4780 as well?
no, the 4870 only has built in 11b not 11G
post #12 of 48
Good to know, thanks. Since you have a 4780 (with wireless I'm assuming), how is it? Any complaints?
Lenard, What is the manufacturer of the internal wifi card your installin? Inquring minds wanna know. Also tell us how it conpares to the 5680's internal. Cause if you find a better wifi card, that's internal, then I'm gunna buy one.

This sucks. I just ordered my 5680 with the internal WiFi. I new that setting it up in Linux might be a little frustrating, but I'm kinda pissed about the state of the windows drivers. I hope that PAPPP is correct about the performance of the Linux drivers

i need to know too

yeah, i have bought one of this too and i want to know what is the problem and how could i fix it (if it is possible, of course)

to the ones inquiring about 4780, if its the same MiniUSB as the 4080, its just slightly less powerful than a standard (not silver/gold) Orinoco card, but its refresh is sometimes a bit flaky, and its included software is the stadnard Prism2.5 trash. it works, but you can do much better. also, when using netstumbler, it shows up twice on the card selection, choose the prism set or it wont work.

Hi can you message me if you get linux up and running. I'm having alot of trouble. I have Mandrake 9.0 and 9.1. I also have Knoppix. My aim is to install knoppix and update with a full Debian upgrade. My friend uses Debian and I like it. I want something that's not exactly for a novice linus user(even though I am). I have the 60gig hardrive. 50gig to xp Pro and I've left 10 to linux. I'm a computer student so you can imagine the frustration when I can't get something to work.

Just message me if you get the chance with some info. It would be really appreciated.

Ion - I PM'ed you, but if any one is interested, we should start a thread on getting Linux up and running on these Sagers. I've seen a few threads before but it looks like they died off. But we do need to start a new thread, I don't want to hijack this one.
