What is melted on the chip? The heat sink thermal compound?
Sorry, I should have asked: How can you tell the CPU dye is melted? Thanks again.

I told them everything except for the part about no paste on the CPU, I didn't mention I opened up. Should I leave that in the description of the problem when I send it in? Any idea how long it will take to get it back? Wish I'd of asked before they hung up...oh well. Do I ask them for a new CPU?

What is melted on the chip? The heat sink thermal compound? Thanks for your help, I can't believe this stuff happens...thats a lot of money to mess up something simple like that.
Nothi,

You did the right thing on your phone call, less is more.

They will test it and see the system runs like crap and know it's a hardware issue immediately. They will suspect the CPU as soon as they see it in action just like I did from your post.

Then they will open up the system and inspect the CPU and see that the CPU Dye is melted and realize they F'd up, "Not enough TC applied". THEY WILL BE FORCED TO GIVE YOU A NEW CPU SO IT SHOULD NOT MATTER.

Recommendation:

Wait a day or two after you know they have received the system. Call constantly and inquire about what is wrong with your system. Once they confirm the issue, demand you want a NEW CPU at that point (I'm sure they will give you one anyway, BUT CONFIRM IT AND DEMAND ONE IF YOU GET ANY CRAPOLA...

Good Luck!

Nothi,

Notice in your photo the big, dark, "Green Blob" over the CPU Dye, your chip is melted, THAT IS NOT THERMAL PASTE AND IS NOT NORMAL. Thermal Compound is the white stuff on the bottom of your heatsink... That CHIP is melted from extreme heat... At least this is what it looks like from the photo. Trust me, the chip is torched as you did not have enough compound on the chip. Those transistors are toast...
