I have Apacer in mine dude.
Did you get a matched pair. If they are not matched you will have dramas as the 8890 is configured to use dual channel so the timings between each module must match.

Just looked up the details I wrote down when I first got the machine apart (am I anally retentive or what?):
Apacer UNB PC3200 CL2.5 DDR512-4

hmmm i ordered the exact same modules and they would not both fire up.

One or the other but not both at the same time like it was having a problem dual channel.

It was even very finicky getting both factory modules back in

these are the 3rd set of 512 modules ive tried man i wish i had just ordered it with a gig i really need the extra when burning DVD's

They need to be a matched pair dude.
Good quality stores sell them as such (some stores just dupe you by selling you two sticks). The real pairs are packaged as matched pairs.
You will pay a premium for them though.
If you can't get any joy elsewhere you could always order them thru PC Torque .

i upgraded to the new bios that didnt help, but upon closer investigation i realized that indeed one of the modules is bad it will not boot on its on either. Jesus what does it take to get a pair of working modules.

ANyone know a good place to buy 512 meg modules that will work in this laptop?

btw they must have been matched their serial numbers were off my exactly 1
