Tweak UI? Isn't that a OS tweaking utility that Microsoft makes? It has very limited functionality and does not allow significant tweaking with the appearance of the Windows Shell. Are you sure of this info?

yah, that's what i was thinking... i mean... if it were something as low down as that, i imagine they'd be using some other shell tweaker like winblinds and desktopx etc. if that's the case.... W O W... that takes some balls lol.

To the guy that bought the GoIHollyhood, i think u should send it back. A tweaked Win XP is not necessary for the price. You can simply go online or forums and im sure ppl are willing to help u tweak it.
Yes, MOST of the major ones do that. "The few notable exceptions are IBM, Acer, Toshiba, Twinhead and Apple." (not my words)

Which is why IBM owns and why I'm ditching my crap machine Compaq and getting an IBM.
Acer is Taiwanese if I remember correctly.

Twinhead is another Taiwanese company.

Compaqs are made in Korea if I remember correctly, and my Presario 2810T was a great machine.
Apple used to be made by ECS, now it is made by Asus: both Taiwanese companies

The IBM X and R-series are made by Wistron, another Taiwanese company.

Tweak UI???

They charge the extra thousands of dollars for things like Tweak UI????

OMG. This just made me cry laughing.

Tweak UI is a free download.

Here you go:

What's that? You wanna pay me $800 for that?

Uhhm,...

naa, this one's on me.

God, how dumb can people get.

I doubt it's tweak UI..I think someone's been misinformed. Assuming Liebermann's tweaks are purely aesthetic, it would take a better GUI tweaker than Tweak UI to change the GUI that dramatically. It is possible that L has a shell replacement, or simply programmed their own GUI modifications using the Win32 API. Tweak UI definitely cannot do those things.

All of the companies u have listed have some affiliation with taiwanese manufacturers. IBM does not make their own laptops, they buy from OEMs.
Umm...IBM is an OEM....OEMs license ODMs to produce their components. Smaller OEMs buy off-the-shelf barebones.

Make sure you have XP service pack 1 installed, as it is required for USB 2 compatability. If you already have, go into device manager and look for a device under the unknown section (represented by a question-mark) for something with USB in the name. Click "Reinstall driver" and let it search itself, and then it should reinstall all the USB ports as USB2.

If there isn't anything under device manager as unknown.... well then something is very wrong...

All the tweaks that they utilize in WinXP Pro is called Tweak UI. I believe it slows down the computer personally.

Would I buy from them again? No. I would definitly wait a year or so to find out if they are still around and what type of reputation they have made.
it's good to see they treated you properly, and owned up to the misinformation.

Well Gr8, they didn't really have much choice in the matter. The product didn't match what they were selling and MEDDUDE reportedly had a pretty good back-up, AMEX. If he was satisfied and couldn't get satisfaction from the company, they would refund his money, and believe me, AMEX is about to play footsie or peekaboo with a small company like Go-L. They would debit their accounts and if there was a problem, they'd report them around the financial world and whatever credit they had would vaporize instantly and probably permanently. Now, Go-L might be able to hype their products on their website all they want, but when it comes to cold hard cash, nobody is going to screw with AMEX or the rest of the big banks. They'd lose their CC accounts and then how's anybody to pay them.

I am not sure how tweak UI "changes" the GUI dramatically, but one thing I always do to impress the windows xp nouveau users is check the "Adjust for best performance" which basically "turns off" all the xp artistic effects. The perception they receive is that the machine is alot faster.

Guys,... argggghhh, god I hate it when innocent people are robbed of their money because a.) They are rich enough to throw away money. or b.) They are naive.

Tweak UI isn't used to change the XP interface:

Here THIS is Windows XP, just a simple uxtheme.dll replace and using a theme some guy made called TD4.0

You can change XP anyway you like, and you don't need to pay thousands of dollars to do so, unless you are gullible.

Download the following theme here

I checked the AMEX return program...it is only up to $300, even on their platinum card. I wonder how MEDDUDE can take advantage of that program, since we are talking about a much larger sum.

Whoa, haha, not a minor detail! At least Go-L isn't doing a really bad practice by refusing to refund him.

TD 4.0 is a theme? How does this relate to Shell Replacements such as Aston? I checked the website and there are themes for Aston as well...I thought one had to first replace the Explorer shell and then install themes. I didn't think you could replace the Explorer theme.

apparantly you have to overwrite the uxtheme.dll file to do it. hasn't worked for me so far. going to try it again with a boot disk later today.

Guys it's super simple no need to replace explorer or some such hacking. This straight from the readme of that TD4:

Install instructions:

1. Before you begin, please make sure you have installed
either a tweaked uxtheme.dll file or a copy of StyleXP
(from TGT Software). If you don't know what these are,
please visit the following web page where the entire
process is explained:

http://www.jonmega.com/~iceman/vs/in...structions.php

As I understand it, Microsoft in its infinite wisdom has enabled users to use different themes with XP, Luna, Silver, etc. But lo and behold it has forbidden you to use themes not made by Microsoft (i.e. the good looking ones).

The "lock" is a file called uxtheme.dll (just a 100 kb file, which is used for nothing else but this lock), you just replace that with a non locked version (available from all graphic artist/ themes sites), you just replace it.

Thing is Microsoft is kinda paranoid, so you gotta do it using safe mode or whatever, or just use a really (and I mean stupidly) simple program called replacer (rinse it here) . (it's just a window, you drag the original file into it, then the file with which you want to replace it, and it's done.)

Uhhm,.. Go-l style, this information above will be $1399 please...
