The trackpad

Hi again.

I've decided (almost) to just bite the bullet and live with the box, whether PcTorque ever responds to my e-mails and requests or not. (At least there's a forum for these issues now, which was not the case 72 hours ago.)
But being as I've had so much trouble with this Elantech track pad, I'd really like to search for some knowledge out there, and conversely have a place for other people experiencing these issues to look.
Also, you know, how does a manufactuer select a company that doesn't have drivers for their own products available on their web page? I mean, can anyone tell me what's up with that? (Now that I mention, perhaps I'll write them so *they* can not write me back in poorly translated korean).
Since we are talking about a laptop here, I'm assuming lots of people use the trackpad - I would assume at least as many people use the pad as those that buy external pointing devices. And I am *surely* not the only who desires to turn off the 'tap-to-click' option. (You guys know the one? It's that thing that keeps selecting stuff around the screen while I'm trying to type in this box causing me to get frustrated). Yes, you can turn it off - you have to every time you boot the machine. You want support for an external mouse or device? Then forget being able to turn it off - with my kenninston driver loaded the option to turn on and off tapping makes no changes.
I'm new to XP and windows so perhaps there's something I'm missing. Any help?
P.S. I thankfully have no noise in my headphone jack - so thank goodness for small miracles.

Yeah, that's cool. I have that little sheet that tells me what all the function keys do. I guess I might not of been clear.

I like using the touchpad - it is the primary way I interact with my computer. I learned to use one without 'tap-to-click' enabled because I kept selecting stufs.

I would like to use the trackpad. I would like 'tap-to-click' to be disabled without having to manually disable it on boot. :-)

On the plus side - I got my current setup to work with the external device. For values of work that include having to turn off 'tap to click' on boot. And the scroll bar not functioning in firefox.
