..

only 32MB is dedicated, the remaining 224MB is Turbocache/shared
post #6 of 14
yea...i too would like to see ur sourcefor this info.

both lappys use the go7400 with "turbo cache" which means it shares the system memory. to me that means ~64mb or ram on the actual GPU, this would cut down on heat, size and price. but then again that is just what i assumed...link please

GeForce Go 7400 Graphics Bus Technology PCI Express
Memory Interface 64-bit
Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 7.2
Fill Rate (Gpixels/sec) 1.8
Vertices/Second (Millions) 330
Memory Data Rate (MHz) 900
RAMDACs (MHz) 400

Source: http://www.nvidia.com/page/go_7300.html

Doesn't this mean that it has 64mb of dedicated memory?

64bit memory bus bandwidth not memory size.

Shared Video RAM (maximum) 224 MB

........

a card that "uses" 256MB and is "accessing" 224MB of Shared Video RAM / turbocache leaves a remainder of 32MB

proh- video ram tends to be faster than std ram. and since its use just for the video, it tends to help with speed of graphics. So you would want more video ram and less shared ram.

Think of it this way: pour water from a vase into a cup. The faster you pour is the speed you put gfx on the screen. Now if the water needs to pour into your vase first then you pour into the cup there is a delay. That would be like using shared memory. it has to grab it off-card so there is a delay.
