I have a problem with HDD type and my notebook

I bought an external hard disk case(box) which is connected to computer by USB cable. Now i want to buy a hard disk for that case (box). My external hard disk case (box) supports both IDE and SATA disks. If i buy a SATA disk, can i use this with my computer? I do not know whether my notebook computer supports SATA disks or not. I do not have any idea about SATA technology. By using this external SATA disk box, can i connect a SATA disk to a mother (main) board which does not support SATA technology? Data transfer between computer and SATA disk is provided by only USB 2.0 cable.

Features of my notebook computer is below:

well, you said your case supports IDE and SATA, so you should be fine if you bought a SATA hard drive....there should just be directions in it and all you do is hook up the right connection between your case (enclosure) and your HD...the USB is already there and will simply connect to your USB ports.

that makes sense?

Thanks for your reply, but now i do not have any hard disk. I am planning to buy one. You mean that i can buy a SATA disk and connect to my notebook? Will it work properly?

1. buy a hard drive enclosure that supports IDE and/or SATA and has a USB (preferably 2.0 interface)

2. buy a IDE or SATA hard drive that fits it.

3. marry them together, connect the right parts..like on the wedding night..heh

4. connect the USB to your USB port on your laptop.

and you should be good to go.

this works for external hard drive...if you're planning to put an internal one in your laptop then that's different.

Mr. EdoKoi; thanks alot, i will follow your enlightening intructions I concluded from your sentences that both of the hard disks fit my laptop and function properly, if i use my external hard disk box. I will choose SATA one.

hey, no problem...hope everything works out for ya.

quick question....are you putting a regular 3.5" desktop hard drive in or a 2.5" notebook hard drive in your case?

cheers!

Size of my enclosure is 3.5". I think this size is desktop hard drive size. The SATA disk that i'll buy will be 3.5" also. Thanks for your attention.

cool, i was going to suggest a desktop 3.5 hard drive, because you can get a lot of GB for a lot cheaper than notebook drives.

good luck!

You are right. Desktop 3.5 hard drives are cheaper than notebook 2.5 hard drives. It was good choice to buy desktop 3.5 hard drive enclosure for me. Today, i'll go to tech shop and buy "Samsung SATA II 200 GB" hard drive.

Physical appearences of the data cables of SATA1 and SATA2 are the same. Does it matter to use SATA2 hard drive instead of SATA1 hard drive or not?
it does not matter which hard drive you use..the cable connectors are identical. either will work for you.

I connected all parts as in your instructions , and used my new external hard drive on "Win XP Prof TR". Device gave me full performance. Data transfer rate is so high for serial bus external hard drives (I think, being SATA II and USB 2.0 are the reasons for that), there is no voice, drive's temperature is at normal levels. My new hard drive system is composed of CODEGEN 3.5" "SATA" "IDE" "USB 2.0" HARD DRIVE ENCLOSURE and SAMSUNG SATA II HARD DRIVE.
