Take a look at some reviews. Samsung seems to be the slowest 5400RPM drives, sometimes by quite a margin. Perhaps just a firmware bug, and fixable, but last I checked, they weren't the fastest. That's not to say they're not quiet or reliable however. And oftentimes they're much cheaper than competing 5400RPM drives.

Samsung is a good choice too, not so quick than seagate or hitachi but if you are not a game player you wont notice any diference between segate or hitachi vs samsung!!
If are looking for the best relation price/gb , Samsung is the right choice!!

take a look on Toms review ..
http://www.mobilityguru.com/2004/12/...uts/index.html

like they say on conclusion .. "Samsung's 80 GB drive MP0804H went through the benchmark suite without attracting much attention. Performance was in the middle of the pack, but slightly behind Seagate and WD. But the Samsung drive should be available at lower prices, making it a nice deal."
whatever will be your choice , please stay away from toshiba !! i know what ii´m talking about!!!

Well, received my Seagate 5400.2 rpm 100GB from Newegg yesterday (Thursday) after ordering it on Monday.

Newegg=

So I have only been using it for 24 hours but the first thing I noticed was how flippin' quiet it is. Even quieter than the 4200 rpm Fujitsu it replaced. I read that the Seagate drive was near silent but you always take statements like that with a grain of salt. Well it's 100% true...it's amazingly, incredibly silent! Speed is pretty noticable, of course, over the Fujitsu. While most offer a 3 year warranty Seagate backs theirs with a 5 year warranty. Now do I think I'll be using this drive in 4 or 5 years? Most likely not, unless for an external back up, but it's still nice to know that you have that incredible warranty...I guess.

Great drive, quick & super quiet. Highly recommended.
