Microsoft Composite Battery Help

Thread Starter
Today I ran into some problems with my i6000 so I reinstalled Windows. After I got everything back to the way it was, I put in my battery and was surprised to see that nothing recognized my battery. NHC and the windows power management did not show a battery as being attached, however the battery was fully functional.

I looked in Device Manager and noticed "Microsoft Composite Battery", under "System Devices", had the yellow exclamation mark by it. I decided to uninstall it and was expecting it to reinstall on reboot but it did not. I believe this driver is the cause for the unrecognized battery issue.

How could I go about reinstalling this device if i have the file "compbatt.sys" ? I tried Add Hardware but there was no "Microsoft Composite Battery" entry...

Thanks.

Just installed the chipset and nothing has changed.

Try clicking the [ Update Driver ] button on the Properties | Driver tab and look for Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery

Thanks a lot. I fixed the problem.

I uninstalled the "Microsoft AC Adapter" and "Microsoft ACPI-Complaint Control Method Battery." Then restarted with the battery in and it was recognized.

good to hear you fixed it on your own.

You meant you had "Microsoft AC Adapter" and "Microsoft ACPI-Complaint Control Method Battery" as well as "Microsoft Composite Battery" in your Device Manager?

So what do you have listed under your Device Manager now?

I had "Microsoft AC Adapter" and "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" in my Device Manager, but no "Microsoft Composite Battery." After uninstalling the first two and rebooting, "Microsoft Composite Battery" came back by itself.

Yes, the first two entries are what I have for my 6000 too.

Is "Microsoft Composite Battery" meant to be present?

I think it is supposed to be present. It is under the "System devices" group, not under "Batteries."

Maybe just need a cleanup (defrag, chkdisk, normal updates). It that does not work try a clean installation after backing up your personal data

cheers ...
