should I get the Aurora m7700??!! - Page 4

I just haven't gotten good feedback on raid 0. I heard its suceptable to crashing. And if one hard drive goes you still loose everything. Perhaps with more postitive feedback on raid 0 I could be persuaded to change my mind in the future.

Yeah, go to HardOCP and read the review of WidowPC there before you spend a penny... You've been warned.

ps all the computers with these specks are exactley the same so the differnces between them are negligible.
You have no idea what you're talking about, it's no wonder you ended up with a Dell.

Sagermeister: Do you still think the laptop will be ok for classroom settings as far as noise levels go?

How about anyone else that has an m7700?

I'd hate to buy this thing (which admittedly is what I REALLY want) and then not be allowed to use it in the class -- and thus have to spend money on a cheap laptop for school. My wife would kill me! :P

it's fans can get pretty loud and it's big. plus you need a power cord cause the battery lasts less then an hour.

Yeah... I know of the battery issues and the weight tonnage . If the fans are disruptive to class would be the only reason I'd stay away. Hopefully that is not the case.

I honestly had no intention of buying from WidowPC, I checked their website out a while back and it didn't appeal to me at all. Frankly I didn't think their selection of both PC's and upgrade options all that great either. and as always...this is just my opinion.

My Aurora just arrived. A few things -

1) It weighs a ton
2) The fans are just as loud as on my current POS laptop - of course this is when not running graphics intensive apps
3) The power brick is exactly that - the size of a brick and just as heavy.

4) None of the above matters a bit to me - I'm very happy. Although I wouldn't want to lug this to several classes a day. If I had to do that I might have got the 5700.

You say they are 'just as loud'. Does that mean your current POS laptop is very loud? Or are you trying to say that non-gaming the fans are comparable to other laptops?

I realize the weight issue. I also realize the brick is big and heavy. I'm only going to be taking this to a couple classes ever OTHER week, so it's a small part of the function of the laptop I'll get.

The only issue left in my way is making sure the thing doesn't cause a disturbance in the classroom. Everyone is required to have a laptop in the grad school program, so there will be a ton of laptops in the class. The question is will the fans on this puppy cause a disturbance.

I have another question...does anyone know of a website that gives a very detailed review of the Aurora m7700? I've been looking everywhere and just can't seem to find one. I would expect there would be one considering the fact that it has been out for more than 2 months. As always, help would really be appreciated.

I just took the dive on an Aurora m7700. yup 4000 bucks in the hole. Unfortuately, shipping date is not until begining of march. I'll just have to buy some benadryl for those sleepless nights thinking about it.
