Best practice for maintaning battery? (3880)

Thread Starter
I've had a Sager 3880 since May 2005 (I love it, great laptop) an I bought it with two 12-cell batteries.

The first battery is showin a 19% wear level and the second 11%.

What is the best practice to prevent additional wear on the batteries? Are you supposed to drain them completely before charging? Should I remove the battery when attached to the AC adapter?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I think they say, that once a month, you are supposed to drain it completely (using everyday use) and then recharge it after that completely. I have been pretty good about doing that. My battery has 3% wear. I got mine in June 2005.

What I am wondering is it I need to consider buying another battery to replace this one when it worn down... If so, will they make these battery anymore by the time it IS worn down? The ones that are probably available are probably old. Will they be as effective after sitting on a warehouse shelf for a year or so?
