I think what he said may be true.

The reason why ppl need to deal with "modding" their 9300 to use 7800, was perhaps because dell never EXPLICITLY stated that the 7800 could work with the 9300.

However, now they ARE stating that the 7800 works with the e1705 (even tho its not a GTX, its still the same family).

Well he clearly stated that a GeForce 7800 GTX would fit in a E1705! But...is it TRUE?? I dont want to buy a expencive spare part I can not use..

If you can in fact put the 7800GTX into the 9400; that would really suck that now they've stopped giving the 7800GTX cards for anywhere near decent prices. That could also help explain why they upped the price again, as they didn't want to sell upgades to the newest notebooks that cheap.

True John. And you never know whether they know what they are talking about. They could be sitting somewhere in India(no offence) with a big manual.

Just wait and see what happens. I'm sure that someone will soon or later try to do something.

1. the video connector on the systems boards with intergrated graphics (945 GM) is different than the systems baord with graphics cards...

2. the 7800 GTX will not fit in the 9400/E1705. When you take the system apart the is a piece of metal bloacking the second cooling arm from seating in front of the cpu cooler. (i'm sure it could be modded )

I will try and get some pic's up later today to show the diffrences..

i just cancelled my order for integrated and got one with the 7800...

You can only upgrade the graphics on a system with dedicated graphics capability.

haha if i had the $$$ i'd upgrade to the max my friend....
as a student living with a tight budget, i was thinking of getting the cheap base system, and upgrading slowly along the way... that way i can at least get a laptop and start using it first, and upgrade as the cash comes in..

eventually i went for the 7800 upgrade... coz i didnt want to be stuck not being able to upgrade!

If you buy one with integrated video, there is no slot to add a card later, in fact the intel chipset on the motherboard is slightly different. The intel graphics use the 945GM and the add on card has a 945GM chipset on the motherboard. So the sales reps you guys talked to were way off and I can't believe you belived them!

There are plenty of reasons to buy integrated graphics on any system. There are alot of people that buy these systems that will likely never take advantage of the GPU power offered in the NVIDIA cards. The idea that everyone needs dedicated GPU's is just silly. In fact knowing the huge marketing machine that Dell has, they probably saw a very real need to offer integrated graphics on the 17" system due to customer demand.
