Stupid 4780/WXGA Question

So, I've got me a new 4780 inching its way toward me, and I started wondering... I know the display can only do a wide-screen version of XGA, but what if I hook it up to a monitor? I use a Sun monitor at home that's capable of obscenely high resolution... if I hook the 4780 up to it, will it still be limited to WXGA resolutions, or will I be able to crank it up?

no...the video card in the 4780 when hooked up to an external monitor can go up to higher than 1440X900. The resolution doesn't depend on the monitor it depeends on the GPU inside.

Actualy a clarification on that. The monitor will certainly dictate the resolution at least any newer monitor. Otherwise the manufacturers would not post what the monitor can and can't do. You have given size and refresh ratings that most newer OSs will poll the monitor and give you the ability to choose them. But in reality it is dependant on both the GPU memory (amount) and the monitors actual capabilities.

Cool.

Cool... I was half-considering a UXGA box, but considering I'll have 'er hooked up to the monitor a good amount of the time I was hoping that was the case... It's a 24" monster, and it'd be a shame to have to keep it at something like 1024x768 to keep the laptop happy.

Thanks. I guess there's nothing more for me to do now than curse the fact that I live in California, and it'll take a few extra days for my new toy to arrive.
