Hi,

I'm thinking about buying an Acer Aspire 1642 and was wondering how you like it?? Do you recommend this model for someone who will be using it for watching DVDs, surfing the web, and light-gaming (Mame games)? And how long does the battery last? I keep reading different times....

i'd recomemd it for the above. Mine works a treat. I get to watch a full DVD no problem on battery, then about an extra hour surfing. Gaming about 1 to 2 hours. My 1962 is only 2 months old by the way.

I have the 1642 WLMi and really dig it, but was disapointed to learn the bluetooth feature is "NO DEVICE" (Great sales rep failed to point out that the icon and button on the unit only leads you to beleive something is there that is not).

PLEASE ADVISE IF ANYBODY OUT THERE knows how to get the bluetooth module for this unit. It is otherwise far suprerior to my Toshiba Satellite especially in CPU power. I get about 2 to 2.5 hours heavy surf time (including playing music and videos) before getting warning to plug it in.

It's nice and light with awesome screen brightness and sharpness. Speaker volume, even with headphones, not as loud when turned all the way up as the Toshiba was, but I wanted to be able to record in STEREO and this is one of the only notebooks I found with a LINE IN instead of just the MIC IN jack.

I looked at Dells, Gateways, Sonys and Toshibas, chose this over them all and very happy after 2 weeks use now. Paid $899 US
