Linux Specs

Hi wanted to start that thread to publish, as soon as i would have it..., the full technical specs of the machine for linux users. I am getting a 5660 with P4 2.4, 40 gigs 5400 rpms and 512 DDR.

So far digging around assures me that the sound chip is a ALC201/A Realteck manufactured. It has great futures which should be complemented by the latest release of Alsa drivers ( 0.9rc7 last time i checked).

See the Linux threads for help on gfx drivers

Arghhhhh, wrong digging as now looking at Intel specs about the 845 chipset tells me it is a 6 channels audio integrated intel with a spdif out.

This translate to i810 audio......ummm. can't wait to get the lappy ....

Yale2006,

So far looks the same, still dunno why some vendors, or Sager for example, says the sound chip is a ACL201 ( Avance Logic recently bought by realtek . But as they both have the i845e mainboard, they should be ICHi8Xx sound chips ... Go figure

Another catch !!

Read a review bout the 5660 stating today that a Texas Instrument chip was being used for Firewire on the 5660, strangely bypassing the i845e possibilities of Firewire.

Is that the same with the sound chip ? Could that be effectively a ALC201 (formely Avance Logic ) Realteck chip ?? ........soon more i hope.
