wondering

hi, i am new to the post and am looking at alienware sentia m3400 as my new laptop. i am a photographer and needed something light, large capacity and fast. this seemed to fit my bill. i know alienware has a great rep as a gaming comp but how is it for other things not related to gaming. also does anyone else have a suggestion for a laptop besides the m3400 for use for digital photography and i am talking more than just viewing and sending emails. i am looking for something for the semi-pro. thanks

i believe the processing power for say, photoshop is quite good. but gaming on a sentia is a no-no, battery life is roughly 3 hours i believe (dont quote me on that). but for your needs i think it will suit very well, do get that 14" screen tho, for viewing if your a photographer you'll be needing a high resolution

I'd have to say, if you're doing professional photo work, something a little bigger than the 1280x800 resolution would be desirable. Don't get me wrong, I love the small compact 12.1" (or 14") design of the Sentias...but if you are working on high res images, you might need a bigger canvas. Heck, if you went up to the 15" models you could even get a dedicated graphics card and not have to worry about Photoshop performance.

I do do a bunch of light photoshopping on my lappy, an' must say that more res would be nice, but not a great deal, it still goes blazingly fast. But yes, do consider a screen with higher res, but if you're up for 1280x800, go for it. You'll love it.
