Inspiron 8600 WUXGA Update

First off...Thanks for the Dell forums!

Next, I couldn't see the other thread in general copied over, so I'll give a recap here.

I complained to Dell about the new LCD which ad 3 dead pixels, and they said that it was well within the 1 to 5 dead pixel industry standard. So, I sent a response stating that I told the tech to not bother with the new LCD if it had bad pixels, but that he still did, and said he didn't see any. After that e-mail, the next I received was a note asking for the details so they could come replace it. Woo Hoo!

I'm going to make sure I am there in person next time, so I can check for pixels myself. Can anyone recommend a good app with a nice color for detecting dead pixels I could full-screen to test?

just try differnet full screen color backgrounds, White, Black RED, BLUE, GREEN is a great way to screen it

Whenever I get a new notebook, one of the first things I do is set the desktop to all black. That always helps me examine the screen for pixel problems.

3 dead pixels on a WUXGA shouldn't be that bad!

Where are they that you even see them?

One is in hte top left corner, about 1/2 an inch to the right of where My Documents is.

The other two about 1 1/2 inches apart in the lower-middle, slightly to the left. At about 1' away, I can see them clearly...

yea my friends older dell has some dead pixels and i noticed them the second i sat down to use it the first time

before i even knew what dead pixels were
i was like whats with that annoying dot on the monitor

haha

If it bothers you, it bothers you. Nothing wrong with desiring perfection.

I have a 15" UXGA and I can't even tell if I have any dead pixels. I haven't noticed any, but I haven't really looked for any either. They're all so teeny!

They are indeed very tiny. I'm just not about to spend $2400 on a laptop, that has imperfections...regardless of industry standards...

Just scroll to the bottom and "launch calibrator."

Wow, awesome link, JuicyFruit. Should be helpful to run at the Best Buys and Gateway Stores.

I'm just a bit concerned about some of those tests they run. I'm not sure if they're actually what results from problems with my monitor or if whoever made the test did those effects himself (i.e., the "bad" results could easily be written in Flash). I'm sure I'm being a bit paranoid but it never hurts to question stuff like this. =)
